Ask HDS If you would like to submit a question, please e-mail [email protected].

Q: Our pedodontic office wants to offer our patients an esthetic stainless steel crown as an option for primary teeth. What is the proper way to submit this procedure to HDS? A: There is an ADA procedure code for an esthetic stainless steel crown (D2934) that should be used when performing this procedure. This procedure is a covered benefit for the primary teeth (C-H, M-R) and has an eligible fee. When submitting for a posterior primary tooth, the alternate benefit of a (D2930) or (D2931) is applied.

Claims Information: Completion of Procedures After Eligibility Ends HDS members have 30 days following the termination of their dental plan coverage to complete services that were initiated while their coverage was still in effect. Please include a narrative indicating both the initial date of treatment AND the treatment completion date. If the patient is covered by another plan during the 30 days after termination, the active plan takes precedence and the 30-day termination policy does not apply.

HDS Participating Dentists Reach Out to Hawaii’s Keiki

Mahalo to the HDS participating dentists and the hygienist who volunteered along with 28 HDS employees at the HDS Tooth Fairy Fun Day at the Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center on Sunday, February 24. More than 1,260 children and family members came to the event, setting a new attendance record for the annual event held during National Children’s Dental Health Month in February for the past four years.

The HDS Tooth Fairy distributed tooth flossers and HDS participating dentists provided free dental screenings for children. The dentists who volunteered included Drs. Brent Ching, Dan Fujii, Modesto Gaerlan-Tokunaga, Glenn Hanada, Jason Hiramoto, Sean Holliday, James Hori, Timothy

Inoue, Samuel Ishimura, Colin Lentz, Suzan Ly, Caroline Shek, Robert Sherman, Cheryl Tamanaha, Richard Tesoro, Erik Tinhan, Christopher Yamada, and hygienist DJ Robertson. HDS participating dentists, Drs. David Chen, Glenn Hanada, Tzu-Lan Kuo, and Sean Holliday, were featured in an oral health informational tabloid which was distributed on the same day as the event. The tabloid, distributed by The Honolulu Advertiser to more than 150,000 readers throughout the state, provided information on preparing a child for a dental visit, caring for a child’s teeth, nutrition for healthy teeth, sealants, braces, and more. As part of the HDS Tooth Fairy Fun Day, the HDS Foundation presented a check for $100,000 to the Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center for upgrades to the Big Mouth Theater and to support the Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center’s capital campaign to enlarge the center.
