Century Clothing / Street Graphics Project.

Century Clothing was born as part of a university project called “Street

Graphics”. When starting this project I researched into a variety of different logo’s and brands to see how they w placed within everyday life. After much research i decided that clothing was a good way to represent graphics within the city and streets. Once getting my initial idea I decided to go on to design and print my own T-shirts. I used magazines, the internet and shops to try and come up with a design that would suit a style of people within a certain age group/criteria. Part of the project was to create a website template, instead, I decided to go on and create a fully functional website in which I could sell the T-shirts from. I also created a Facebook page which I could advertise from and build a market audience allowing people to view competitions, photos and keep up to date with what was going on with the brand. After

the T-shirts had started to sell I then decided to move on and create a new product, at the time it was winter so beanies seemed appropriate, I went ahead and sourced a manufacturer in china and like the T-shirts researched into what was popular at the time in terms of style and design. I went ahead and had the beanies manufactured and added them to the website for sale.

Mike Shantz - Project: Artist Typeface.

The project presented was called “Artist Typeface”. The brief

asked us to research into artists of our choosing and create a full working typeface based on their work. I chose the work of artist Mike Shantz. I chose Mike Shantz, mainly, because I enjoy his unique style of design and have been a follower of his work for many years. I wouldn’t say there was one particular piece of work I used to create my typeface, as I used a lot of his work to reference from. The main bit of imagery I concentrated on to create my typeface was Mike Shantz unique style of lines, he uses a variety of thin and thick lines with sharp points to create and add effect to most of his illustrations. and character I wanted to incorporate into the typeface. Within my typeface I used this unique style of line and adapted that in a way which would perform well as a typeface. I kept the font simple by using straight lines but adding sharp points to each point. I used Mike Shantz “unusual” style of design and incorporated this into each individual character, creating something that would warp the character slightly, but keep it readable.
