NEW GENERATION INSULATION SOLUTIONS
RMAX ThermaSilver™ is made from Neopor® an enhanced EPS product from BASF®
The future of the building environment is
changing fast. Efficient insulation is a crucial
part of any new building design as is the
environmental impact of its construction.
Poor insulation contributes to a wasteful
use of energy in Australia. Many homes are
under insulated because builders or owners
are unaware that viable insulation products
suitable for walls, floors, under slab and
ceilings are available in the market.
Modern building practices now require new
construction to conform to the Australian
Building Codes Board energy efficient
measures, putting pressure on architects
and builders to explore new, efficient
materials that will assist achieve this.
Efficient insulation will keep a building cool
in summer by reflecting heat and warm
in winter by retaining heat. This not only
makes the structure more comfortable all
year but will save money on reduced heating
and cooling costs. Over the life of a building
efficient insulation will more than pay for
itself.
RMAX is a leader in the use of expanded
polystyrene (EPS) as an insulation medium
in modern buildings. They have developed
a range of unique products made from EPS
that reduce energy use and greenhouse
emissions through efficient insulation.
One such product is RMAX ThermaSilver™
an advanced insulation panel using Neopor®,
developed by BASF®, world leaders in the
development of EPS insulation.
The changing face of the building environment
Leading edge technology and innovative application
Neopor®
Neopor® stands apart from traditional EPS
because it contains tiny graphite particles that
reflect and absorb radiant heat and give the
material its silver-gray shine. These infrared
absorbers and reflectors improve the thermal
insulation properties so that insulating panels
made of Neopor® can be about 20% thinner than
panels made of traditional EPS.
Small black beads of Neopor® are at the heart of
ThermaSilver™ insulation efficiency providing superior
thermal insulation.
Neopor® can be about 20%
thinner than panels
made of traditional EPS.
Working with thinner panels translates to
lower construction and installation costs as
well as lower transportation and handling
costs. In fact, Neopor® panels add value all
along the value chain from factory floor to
construction site.

The tiny black beads of
Neopor® embedded in the
eps reflect heat radiation.
Manufacturing ThermaSilver™
BASF produce the raw Neopor® EPS material.
It comprises small black beads that contain
blowing agents and consequently can be
expanded.
RMAX use the black Neopor® beads and
manufacture the silver-grey foam blocks of
ThermaSilver™. These blocks are then cut into
panels of specific thicknesses that deliver the
required R-value for a building.
ThermaSilver panel
ThermaSilver™ is a versatile insulation
medium, suitable for multiple applications
both internal and external. It creates a healthy
and comfortable living environment, while
reducing energy use and costs for the life of the
structure. Applications Include:
• Exterior Insulation and Finishing systems
(EIFS)
• Ceiling insulation
• Exterior insulation
• Cavity insulation
• Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs)
• Panel construction
• Floor insulation
Skillset, the developers of The Flannery Centre
in Bathurst, specified ThermaSilver™ to be
used as cavity insulation on the project. RMAX
worked with Skillset and the designers to
produce the optimum product specification that
would meet the insulation requirement for this
world class example of a sustainable building.
The Flannery Centre – A sustainability showcase
With the help of the Federal Government,
Skillset, one of Australia’s largest Group
Training organizations, has built a world-class
green skills and sustainability training centre
in Bathurst. Located in the Education Precinct,
it will be a model of community response to
climate change and sustainability related issues.
Named The Flannery Centre, after Tim Flannery
– renowned environmental advocate and
2007 Australian of the Year, the centre was
built under the Green Star program run by the
Green Building Council of Australia. This posed
additional design and construction challenges
due to the high energy efficiency standards and
minimal impact products required under this
process. The result is an innovative building
with low energy demand for heating, cooling
and lighting, and which has been built with a
reduced ‘ecological footprint’.
Crawford Architects Project architect stated
‘The Flannery Centre design promotes
biodiversity and recycling, water conservation,
reduced reliance on energy sourced from
fossil fuels and limited soil-site displacement.
The implementation of sustainable building
techniques and corresponding selection of the
appropriate materials / products assists in the
ongoing endeavor of ensuring the current stock
of natural resources is not depleted to a point of
hopelessness for future generations’
The Flannery Centre is the home of education
in sustainability in the region, teaching and
showcasing leading edge sustainable building
solutions to the problems that building
professionals face - today and into the future.
Q&A: RMAX ThermaSilver™ using BASF Neopor® Technology

Neopor®. The heart of high performance insulation.
Neopor® is a technology developed by BASF® that greatly improves theinsulation effectiveness of expanded polystyrene (EPS). At the heart ofthe Neopor® beads are small granules of graphite that act as infra redabsorbers or reectors that considerably reduce thermal conductivity.
These silver grey beads are formed into silver-grey blocks by EPS molders from which insulation panels and other applications are cut.
Up to 20% more efficient. Up to 50% less raw material.
Compared to conventional EPS Neopor®
has up to 20% better insulating performance saving on heating andcooling costs for the life of the structure.Neopor® offers greater insulating performance and up to 50% lower useof materials than conventional EPS,helping environmental conservationand saving money.
