FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Forewarned is Forearmed Coronavirus COVID-19
Like you, I have been watching with much interest, the evolving story around the Coronavirus. Daily, we are receiving updates
from Independent Schools’ Queensland, Lutheran Education Queensland and Queensland Health informing us of new cases and
preparations to consider.
For the past week, while it has been business as usual in the classrooms, much is going on behind the scenes so that we are
prepared in case COVID-19 is identified within our school community. If there is a confirmed case here at the College, we would
follow the advice provided by Queensland Health and the Australian Department of Health which could include the closing of
the College for a period of time. That doesn’t mean however, that curriculum delivery needs to stop.
Redeemer is very well positioned to continue delivering curriculum should we be required to close. Remote delivery of subjects
is nothing new to us here. Many of our senior secondary students already study this way and we are well provided with the
technology needed to deliver subjects on-line. Our shared picture of schooling might well change, but we will work with you as
partners to keep your children moving forward through the curriculum should we need to close. If we all work together then we
will minimise the potential impact of curriculum delivery changes on our children. On that note, if you do not have access to, or
have limited access to the internet from your usual place of residence can you please let me know so that I can take this into
account when preparing with the College teachers.
We are not only preparing for curriculum delivery differences. Over the last week we have implemented differences to both the
cleaning schedule and the way the cleaning is performed. We have instigated additional health and hygiene practices in
classrooms, we are reviewing handwashing procedures with the students and we have reviewed procedures within the ‘Getting
Better’ room.
On that note, given that the symptoms of both COVID 19 and Influenza A (which is currently active in Biloela) both include a
fever, students presenting to the office with this symptom will be asked to spend the remainder of the day at home to ensure
that potential transmission of illness is minimised.
You can help at home by encouraging your children to wash their hands using soap and water very regularly. Handwashing is
the single biggest defence mechanism we have against both Influenza A and COVID-19. Let’s work together to ensure our
children are using it.
I will communicate regularly with you all as this unique situation continues to unfold. As always, I am available to discuss with you any concerns you may have. You can contact me at [email protected] . Finally, please join me in praying for healing on those who are currently ill, for wisdom for our community leaders in these unprecedented times, for strength for our medical workers who are on the front line of this pandemic and peace for those families for whom this event is more than headline.
Warmest Blessings

The Library has been fortunate to have received 2 donated board games. Unfortunately, there is a part missing from each game. The Library is seeking a basket from Mouse Trap and one black disc for checkers. Please contact the office if you can help.
CROSS COUNTRY TRAINING
Next week will be our last cross country training session for the
Term with the Cross Country event scheduled for Thursday, 26
March 2020.
We invite all students from P-12 (parents and teachers welcome
too!) to come along to our training session which starts with a
warm up at 7.45am in Banksia. All ability levels are catered for.
The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is an important day in our school calendar to join with other schools across Australia to say ‘Bullying. No Way!’
We are putting our anti-bullying initiatives in the spotlight and calling on our school community to stand with us on Friday, 20 March 2020 by suggesting students wear an orange accessory with their school uniform and making a gold coin donation to the cause.
At our school, we encourage students to take hold of the issue and talk about what works. Let’s support our students to drive powerful messages and take action to prevent bullying. Together we can make change. Everyone has a role to play in supporting young people in dealing with bullying and helping to energise positive discussions about the issue.
FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE
Thank You
Redeemer College is truly blessed to have so many families who are committed to paying their College Fees on time. We
are very proud of the co-operation we receive from our families because this, in turn, allows the College to meet its own
financial commitments. Again, thank you!
Uniform Shop
Grevillea and Acacia house shirts are available from the Uniform Shop. Buy shirts now for the Cross Country on 26 March 2020.
Believe it or not, but it’s going to start getting cooler! Remember to buy new winter jumpers and track pants before the cold mornings start.
There is a good supply of Secondary track pants and jackets available.
Please ensure that students have well-presented hats to wear whenever they are outside. Hats that are faded and
turned up at the sides are not acceptable and need to be replaced.
LLL APP
The LLL has announced the release of a banking app. Designed specifically for banking on the go, the LLL app is simple,
secure and convenient, and is available now for download to your smartphone for free.
Download it from the App Store or Google Play today, search for LLL Australia. For more information on the LLL app visit

Stamps for Missions A faithful group of stamp soakers have raised more than $14,000 in 2019 to aid the church’s mission work in places like Papua New Guinea and Cambodia. If you would like to collect stamps to help support the mission work, stamps can be left at the College office and we will pass them onto Stamps for Missions. You can be generous without giving anything away. The concept of Matching Deposits is unique to the LLL and is an ingenious way to support Redeemer Lutheran College Biloela. Any LLL Savings Account can be nominated as a Matching Deposit to the College. This enables the College to borrow funds from the LLL, to the total amount of Matching Deposits, at the low interest rate of 3.9% p.a. with no application fees or any ongoing fees. When compared to commercial lending rates and the fees imposed by financial institutions, LCA projects with LLL Matching Deposit loans enjoy significant savings. This enhances capital development and can facilitate a more rapid repayment schedule for the loan. Key features of an LLL Savings Account nominated as a Matching Deposit:
Nomination as a Matching Deposit does not affect the status of your account.
Your funds are always available ‘at call’.
You can make deposits and withdrawals as usual.
The account still earns interest.
Your Matching Deposit instructions can be changed at any time. It’s your choice to support, at no cost to you. More information can be found on the Lutheran Laypeople’s League at www.lll.org.au .
