    PRESS RELEASE

    73rd ANNUAL N.E.I.G.A. CHAMPIONSHIP HELD OCTOBER 21-23

Brewster, Mass -- Teams from 43 colleges and universities across New England gathered Sunday through Tuesday, October 21-23, 2007 for the 73rd annual New England Intercollegiate GolfChampionship. The event attracted 212 golfers to The Captains Golf Course and its 36-hole layout on Cape Cod. NEIGA was pleased to have Cleveland Golf Company return as the Presenting Sponsor.

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) has been in existence since 1934 and includes 48 member colleges and universities in New England and is considered to be the oldest and largest college golf tournament. It is unique in that Divisions I, II and III compete together.

Brian Cawley of Salem State College was the medallist with a total score of 144 (even par) over the two-day 36-hole tournament.

The University of Rhode Island (Div. I) , under the leadership of Coach Tom Drennan, won the tournament with a two-day score of 600. It is the 10th time in the last 11 years the Rams have taken home the NEIGA Title. Division II winners were Bryant University finishing with a score of 614. Salem State College led the Division III teams with a total of 619.

At banquet held on Sunday evening at The Irish Village Restaurant, the following awards were presented. The 2007 Guy Tedesco (player) Award went to Travis Dewire of Babson College and Rick Pohle of Williams College was announced as the Gordon McCullough (coach) Award recipient.

Special events, all sponsored by Cleveland golf, were held on Monday afternoon at the finish of the first round. The long-drive contest was won by Jarryd Dillas of the Univ. of Rhode Island with a distance of 292 yards. Jeff Stein of Brandeis University won the putting contest and the bunker contest winner was Michael LaJoie of Springfield College.
