    BOCKRIS LETTER OF INTEREST TO ALL

    From Dr. John O'M. Bockris:

    When I resided in Hamburg, Germany in 1937 and38, I recall writing to a friend to say that, if theGerman paper said that the USA had been invadedby the British from Canada, - great U.S. losses inDetroit, - the Germans would believe it. There wasno possibility of checking (the discovery of radiostuned to the BBC carried a Death Sentence).

    A key to the technique Murray uses is outrage andanger. As you say, - I can't believe this, - you

    claim, - why this is absurd, - that one atom turnsinto another? But that is magic and Medieval

    Alchemy, and etc., etc., etc.

    Science is a 90% game. Dont take it too seriously.There has been in this century perhaps no moreutterly idiotic idea than de Broglies suggestion

    that Waves accompany solid particles.Compared with the transparent lunacy of this idea,low temperature transmutation is an easy catch.But de Broglies suggestion is now the basis ofModern Physics.

    Transmutation research has been going on inmodern scientific journals since at least 1937and the first paper I could quote you is by EnricoFermi himself, - the electrolysis of deuterated ice togive neutrons and He 3.

    Now, to Gleeson and Co.:

    The evidence you have sent me and the

    descriptions sound good. Here are my worries.

    (1) Of course, the removal of radioactivity from thesolution is classical electrochemistry. AC is never100% symmetrical and electrochemical processesrectify. Hence, there will be deposition on eachelectrode. The radioactivity will leave the solutionand go to the electrodes. No big deal.

    (2) The high temperature and pressure will tend todissolve the electrodes and shower lots of stuff intothe solution. This will be greatly helped by the ACwhich will help dissolution electrochemically. As towhat gets into the solution in this classical way, --I suggest a mass balance. Dissolve the electrodescompletely in hot aqueous regia (be careful!) and

    have the solution completely analyzed foreverything. Then, you know what you've got.Would an independent observer be able to accountfor the new material from what is in the electrodes?

    Then I would suggest surrounding the cell with 4 to6 Geiger counters and following the totalradioactivity in the cell. The radiation should beunconcerned with screening and come out anyway.Thus, if there is no transmutation, the total of thegammas will be the same throughout the processof AC. electrolysis. Of course, transmutation willcha ng e t he r ad ia tion . U se a g amma -r ayspectroscope and it may be possible to detect newmaterials by their signal.

    One last thing: Why are not transmutationists infax and e-mail touch with Mizuno and Co.? Theyhave such good apparatus and are very active.Reiko Notoya, too, has more reports of radioactivityin electrodes than any one. All at HokkaidoUniversity.

    COMMENTS BY HAL FOX:

    Dr. Bockris has made some excellent suggestionsfor the Cincinnati Group experiments. Here aresome possible problems: The LENT-1 reactoruses a thick-walled metal electrode which wouldshield most of the emissions detected by a Geiger-

    Mueller tube. Operations in an open beaker havebeen successful, however, the gradual creation ofprecipitate may move the radioactivity from onepart of the cell to another part of the cell. Criticswould immediately point out that the reduction inoverall emissions were the result of change ofposition of radioactive materials with respect to theGeiger counters.

    The chemical analytical techniques are one of thebest methods available, however, the methods arevery expensive. Due to the small amount ofthorium currently used in the LENT-1 protocol(one-tenth of a gram of thorium), the byproducts ofthe expected nuclear reactions must be measuredin parts per million. We have made just suchmeasurements in replicating the LENT-1 protocols.Critics will claim contamination just as theinfamous ERAB committee's report on cold fusiondid.

    The gamma-ray spectroscopy is, in our opinion, thebest method to be used. Here are the toolsrequired:

    UThe LENT-1 Kit ($3,000).UA two-board multi-channel analyzer for your PC.($4,000).UA PC with Windows and at least a 486 CPU chip.($1,000 to $5,000).UA gamma-ray sensor. (Sodium Iodide Crystal atabout $1,000 or much better a germaniumcrystal with cryogenic cooling at about$14,000.)U Digital ammeter, voltmeter, and temperaturemeters. (Less than $1,000).

    For a price tag ranging from about $10,000 to$25,000, you can be reasonably well equipped tomake a series of low-energy nuclear reactions andmeasure the results (just as we are doing andpublishing our findings in this publication). Wenow have in our laboratory a sodium-iodidegamma-ray detector and a Pentium PC with a2,000 channel analyzer, plus software. See ourinitial experimental measurements on page 5.

    The basis of the multi-channel analyzer and sensoris to turn gamma-ray emissions into electricsignals, amplify the signals, and store the signals

    by energy levels, in various bins in the 2,000channel analyzer. Almost all nuclear reactions arecharacterized by the emission of gamma rays(electro-magnetic photons ranging in energy froma few kilovolts to tens of megavolts). Here are thegamma-ray energy levels for thorium and itsdaughter products:

    Assume that thorium nitrate is dissolved in puredistilled water. It is deemed to be unlikely that

    either radon-220 or any of the nuclear reactionbyproducts following thorium would be of any

    importance in the LENT-1 reactorbecause radonis a gas and would likely escape. If present, the

    observed amounts would be very small. Thethorium-232 and the radium-228 give off weakgammas which may or may not be detected by the

    gamma spectroscope. However, the actinium-228,thorium-228, and radium-224 should providesuitable signals so that the thorium daughterproducts can be observed. The gamma-rayspectroscope can be calibrated by makingmeasurements from the "before-processing"solution of thorium nitrate in distilled water.

    Here are the technical challenges: The gamma-raybackground is present everywhere. Even with abarrel-sized lead shield, there are still a lot ofgamma-ray background emanations. Thebackground changes with a change in whatevermaterial is placed into the measuring area.Different metal "targets" will show a differentbackground. Radioactive potassium is everywhereand must be considered.

    Cosmic ray gammas travel through everyone'sbody at the rate of an average 11 per second.

    Assume that in the LENT-1 Reactor, a proton willpenetrate the thorium-232 nuclei. If the thorium-232 fuses with the proton then protactinium-233 isproduced. This isotope decays by beta emissionwith a half life of 27.8 days and becomes uranium-

    233 which decays by alpha emission. If thethorium-232 is being bombarded with protons,what is the probability of creating an unstable

    nuclei that will f ission and what is theprobability that the proton energy will be justsufficient to provide a fusion event? We don'tknow the answer, but it is reasonable to look for thegamma-ray energy characteristic of protactinium-233 (312 KeV).

    Thorium (and all heavy elements) is neutron rich.Oxygen-16 has 8 protons and 8 neutrons -- a fifty-

    fifty ratio of neutrons to protons. Thorium-232 has90 protons and 142 neutrons -- a ratio of more than3 to 2. If nuclear fission reactions take place, thenthe reactions will have to get rid of many excessneutrons. Many scientists believe that this type

    of nuclear reaction must emit neutrons. Noover-background neutron emission has beenobserved from the operation of the LENT-1 reactor.

    What other possibilities are there to shedneutrons? The answer is by beta emission. In thisr ea ct io n, t he u ns ta bl e i so to pe ( ex am pl eProtactinium-233) emits an energetic electron from

    one of its neutrons that changes the neutron to aproton. This process is called beta emission and isa highly predominant reaction following thefissioning of many uranium atoms. As previouslyreported in this publication, the beta-emissionradioactivity of the electrodes after a 30-minuteprocessing time is largely due to betas beingemitted from unstable isotopes where the neutronsare changed to protons. Because this radioactivitydecays over time, this experimental data is judgedt o b e a highly positive indication of LENT-1nuclear reactions. A series of nuclear reactions bybeta decay almost always ends up with a stableisotope. Here is another major problem: The timein which stable isotopes can be formed by betadecay can be relatively short. Most of the betadecay half-lives are less than an hour. To get

    significant and valid data above backgroundinto the 2,000 channels of the gamma-rayspectroscope multi-channel analyzer requiresreasonable exposure times. Regardless of whatthe experimenter will be able to report, the skepticswill be most likely to claim that the experimentaldata is inconclusive.

    The perjorations of the Internet oratorical societyhave, as yet, added almost no intell igentsuggestions that were not already obvious to atrained scientist. That does not mean that anexchange of information on the Internet should beavoided. We do suggest that Internet surfers

    should seek for peer-review (with all of its faults)and essentially ignore those who are not qualifiedto instruct the community of scholars. We don't want to interfere with the fun of thoseeager writers, who, unencumbered by education orexperience, are titillated with the idea that millionscan read the results as they play the role ofscientific critic in the world's most democraticforum.

    Therefore, if you want to get some hands-onscientific training and become one of the firstcadre of new-energy scientists, organize

    yourselves into small groups and get started.Just like an investment club, the members can putin their monthly contributions, a nuclear reactionclub can marshal their assets and capabilities andbecome new low-energy nuclear scientists.     Note to the Internet critics: Dr. Shang-Xian Jin, ahighly-awarded Chinese scholar (whose work isthe definitive Chinese text on plasma physics forChinese scientists), with some scientific andwordsmith help from Hal Fox, has prepared thispreliminary report. A more extensive paper will besubmitted for peer-review and published in the nextissue of the Journal of New Energy.

    The Trenergy laboratory used a Ludlum Measure-ments, Inc., Sodium Iodide detector, Model 4410-D; the Aptec Autobias PC Card (AHV-1PC); the

    Aptec PC multi-channel analyzer (Series 5000MCArd); and the Aptec Basic Display and

    Acquisit ion Software (PCMCA/SUPER) . This

    combination provides a relatively low-cost (about$5,000) gamma-ray spectroscope.

    Each gamma ray striking the sodium-iodide crystal(2 in. dia x 2 in. long) produces a burst of electrons.The detector assembly uses an electron multiplierand a signal splitter which produces negative-goingpulses ranging from a few millivolts to a few volts,depending on the energy level of the incominggamma ray. Most of the gamma counts in the low-energy (X-Ray) energy level come from thebackground sources, such as cosmic rays,spurious electronic signals, r adioactive contamin-ations and the particular source being measured(including gamma-ray scattering, X-ray production,beta particles or bremsstrahlung). The computersoftware allows for selection of lower energybounds to be displayed. Because the background

    radiation for a specific setup can be subtractedfrom experimental spectra, it is rigorouslynecessary to take background radiation spectrawith each experiment.

    In the accompanying figure, the gamma-rayspectroscope was "calibrated" using a smallamount of powdered thorium nitrate. If there areno nuclear reactions produced by the LENT-1reactor, then the spectra obtained from (forexample) the zirconium disk electrode should beconsistent in various peaks with the thoriumspectrum. Obviously, if the reactor was merelyplating thorium and its daughter products onto thereactor electrodes, the shapes of the two spectrawould be highly similar.

    The second spectrum was obtained by placing azirconium disk electrode immediately in front of thesodium iodide detector in the same manner asused for the thorium sample. It is evident that thereis considerable difference between the spectra ofthe thorium nitrate and the spectrum for the diskelectrode (see the accompanying figure).

    Because this data was taken only one day beforepress time for this issue of New Energy News,there has not been sufficient time to carefullycalibrate and analyze the data to identify whichisotopes may be responsible for the disk gamma

    spectrum. The analysis will look for theProtactinium-232, gamma energy level (312 KeV)and, of course, other possible expected nuclearreaction sources. If identified, then it will bereasonable to claim that one of the identifiednuclear reactions is the fusion of a proton withThorium-232 to produce Pa-233.

    If our hypothesis is correct we expect to findevidence of a considerable amount of neutronshedding by neutrons emitting electrons andbecoming protons in short-term radioactivity. It isexpected that there will be a variety of beta-emission reactions with a variety of specificgamma-ray energy levels that can be detected.

    With proper funding and with better gamma-rayspectroscopes, it is a reasonable goal to

    identify all (or, at least, a majority) of then uc le ar r ea ct io ns r es ul ti ng f ro m t h etransmutation of thorium in the LENT-1 reactor.

    they should be running their experiments. TheInternet is highly democratic. Just don't expect tofind substantive, accurate information fromeveryone. The Internet surely makes the peer-reviewed literature look good, even with itsenormous faults of over-skepticism for newtechnology.

    Obviously many cells have been examined visuallyas well.

It is wonderful, and all too rare to findcontrol runs. However, the controls necessarilydiffer in both their chemical and their nuclearproperties.     GOOD INFO TO PASS ON, AND ON, AND ON

    Dr. C. L. Olson, et al., of Sandia NationalLaboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico, experi-mented with special ion accelerators using electronbeams to accelerate protons. ("ExperimentalDemonstration of Controlled Collective Ion Acceler-ation with the Ionization-Front Accelerator," PhysRev Letters, 26 May 1986, vol 56, no 21, pp 2260-63.) The highest electron density that they wereable to achieve was about 1012 to1014 electrons percubic centimeter. By contrast the plasma-

    injected charge clusters have an electrondensity of 1023 electrons per cubic centimeter.This is an achievement of ten order of magnitudeover previous technology.

    PROTON BEAM PARTICLE ACCELERATORS

    It is standard physics that high-energy protonparticle accelerators can produce nuclear reactionsand have been proposed to transmute high-levelradioactive wastes into stable elements. Theproblem has been that it requires a nine-million volt(or more) acceleration potential to speed up the

    protons to about 0.1 the speed of light.

    Using the charge cluster technology, protons canbe combined with a high-density electron cluster sothat about one proton is picked up for every100,000 to 1,000,000 electrons in the cluster. Thecombined cluster can be accelerated to about 0.1

    the speed of light with about 5,000 volt potential!An important question is, "How does the density

    of protons using the charge cluster technologycompare with the proton density in a high-voltage proton particle accelerator?" Theanswer is the following:

    The proton density in a standard high-potentialparticle accelerator is about 1012 protons per cubiccentimeter.

    The proton density in a table-top charge clusterparticle accelerator is about 1017 to1018 protons percubic centimeter!

    Not only is the proton density larger using chargecluster technology, but the cost of the table-topproton accelerator is about 1,000 times cheaperthan classical proton accelerators!

    These are very important concepts to get theattention of the decision makers and their scientificadvisors in the DOE. Although these figures arebased on limited laboratory experiments, this

    is the 22nd nuclear power plant to close and noneof the commercial nuclear power plants hassurvived for the expected 40-year life. In regard tothe closing, the Nuclear Regulatory Commissionhas approved a plan for restoring the Big Rock siteto its prior condition by 2030. The goal is todismantle the plant by 2002. However, the directorof the Nuclear Information and Resource Servicewould like to let the plant cool off for a fewdecades before breaking it down.

    Residents are concerned about the storage of "442bundles of uranium rods" (probably zirconium rodscontaining spent fuel pellets). Plans are beingmade to move the rods from the pools of water andplace them in 210-ton dry casks on the plantgrounds. Some are concerned because "Crackshave shown up in casks at other plants, and firebroke out last year during cask loading at the PointBeach plant in Wisconsin."

    The legacy of old energy continues. Let's begin alegacy for a clean, environmentally-friendlyenergy industry. Nuclear power was developed toease the U.S. dependency on foreign oil imports.

    However, the enormous costs of nuclear powerplants and the larger costs of handling

    r adi oa ct iv e s pe nt f ue l pe lle ts a nd of dismantling the plants is the reponsibility of the

    U.S. government. It is suggested that these costsfar exceed the savings that have been achieved inoil imports. However, not burning oil is a worthy

    objective. New Energy Newsbelieves that there ismuch better new-energy technology that can bedeveloped and used.

    AIR POLLUTION TO KILL 700,000?

    Accor ding to scientists, the answer is "Yes, unlessfossil fuel emissions are reduced." Eight milliondeaths could be avoided in the next two decades if

    pollutants from fossil fuels could be reduced oraverted. Switch to natural gas, promote energyefficiency, increase the use of nuclear power, andenergy conservation are the pallatives suggestedby an international scientific group who publishedtheir report in Lancet, a medical journal. Theseideas are reasonable but as old-fashioned asblood-letting for alleviating diseases (from which

    the medical journal derives its name). Where arethe scientists who will recognize that there arenew energy technologies that should bepromoted rather than ignored (or, in the worstcases, suppressed). We now have several yearsof publications devoted to new-energy devices andsystems, including two international conferenceson Low-Energy Nuclear Reactions. It is not that wedo not tell many of the mainstream decisionmakers and scientists, the problem is that thescientific advisors do not believe that their oldversion of science can be wrong.

    "Rapidly spinning black holes and neutron stars

    make the space around them swirl like waterrunning down a drain." This report was given in arecent astronomy conference held in Estes Park,Colorado. Einstein's theory of general relativity,according to the writer, predicts that movingobjects ought to generate a force in addition togravity. That force, whatever it is, can drag spacearound. At least that was the prediction of two

    Austrian physicists in 1918.

    With the basic premise that there is no aether,Einstein did develop his special theory of relativity.By the time of his general theory, he had to endowspace with certain characteristics (such aspermittivity) that would define space as something(rather than a volume of nothing). Now it is foundthat space spins near spinning black holes(whatever they are) and spinning neutron stars.The evidence comes from study of X-rays whichare measured as "wobbling" and interpreted as theswirling of space. We wonder if thatthing that is

    sp inning is t he same something tha t isresponsible for the Aspden Effect. (A spinningmagnetic rotor can be spun up after stopping withless energy that is required to spin-up after a few

    minutes at rest.)

    NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIOON NUCLEAR WASTE

    On Thursday, 20 November 1997, National PublicRadio's morning news provided the followinginformation on the problems with high-level nuclearwaste. Some eighty storage facilities in forty-onestates are running out of room to store the spentfuel pellets or rods from nuclear reactors in

    commercial power plants. It is estimated that atleast 15,000 trucks loads of high-level hazardousnuclear waste materials will be hauled throughalmost every state on their way to some storagelocation.

    Currently, the only storage location considered tobe appropriate to store high-level nuclear wastesfor 10,000 years (or more) is the man-made tunnelin Nevada's Yucca Mountain. The estimated costs,to date, are four and one-half billion dollars tocarve out and test this facility. When completed,the site is expected to store thousands of tons of

    high-level nuclear waste for 10,000 years.Currently engineers are studying the air and water

    movement through the rocks in the vicinity of theproposed storage tunnels. In about another twelveyears the facility will be ready to store nuclearwaste on-site.

    NEN Editor's note: Meanwhile, the DOE remainsentirely unconvinced that low-level nuclearreactions can be created and that some of thistechnology can be developed into processes forstabilizing radioactive materials.

The U.S.Enrichment Corporation has operations in 14countries, about 5,000 workers, and enrichmentplants in both Kentucky and Ohio.

    The timing is beautiful. Now is the time to unloadan antiquated and outdated technology. Soon,new-energy devices and systems, such asTrenergy's plasma-injected transmutat iontechnology, the Cincinnati Group's Low-EnergyNuclear Transmutation inventions, and theShoulders' EV technology, are expected to makethe current nuclear power plants obsolete.

    Bill Ramsay and Greg Hodowanec have beenworking on gravity-wave detectors that turn thecelestial gravity waves into audible sounds.Ramsay has added features that separate out theaudible sounds into three or four musical octaves.Then Ramsay made some tapes of these sounds:

    Here is another hypothesis on what the gravitywave detector is sensing: Several groups of

    researchers in the Soviet Union (or in theCommonwealth of Nations) have been working ontorsion fields [seeJournal of New Energy, vo l1 , n o2, pp 27-31, also vol 2, no 2, pp 67-84]. Torsionfields travel at an estimated 109 times the speed oflight. Torsion fields can be used for communi-cation. Very small power levels, properly applied,produce torsion fields that can travel through hillsand buildings and be received many miles away.

    If an advanced civilization knew of torsionfields, they would use "radio waves" only for

    short-distance communications. Therefore, thesuggestions by Hal Fox (NEN, March 1997, p 14)and by Greg Hodowanec (NEN, Sept. 1997, p 12)that the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence --SETI -- may be looking in the wrong place to detectET communications. It is suggested that when youlisten to Bill Ramsay's fascinating tapes, you are

    listening to a wide-band conglomeration ofcommunications signals plus the torsion fieldbackground (gravity waves) from the universe!

    This may not be the "Music of the Spheres", it maybe just the "Chatter of the E.T.s" that Ramsay has

    THE ELECTRO-MAGNETIC WAVE MISNOMERNorman Silliman

    Light Waves get their Name

    Light waves (and by extension all electromagneticw aves) a re a ssumed t o h ave u nd ulat in gcomponents of electric and magnetic fields,oscillating sinusoidally. This figure is the standardview of what a light wave would look like close up.

    The problem, from my point of view, is that lightwaves are not known to have any interactions withmagnetic f ields. Nor are they known to beinfluenced by an electric field. So, why do theyhave the name, electro and magnetic waves?

    We know that Maxwell predicted the existence ofradio (long waves) radiation while he was providingus with the equations that describe the relationshipbetween electric effects and magnetic effects.

    Henry Boorse, in his book, The world of the Atom,Vol 1, 1966 tells us about some of James ClerkMaxwells work.

    First, his equations demonstrate that the speed ofpropagation of the electromagnetic field is exactlyequal to the speed of light. He showed also thatthe propagated electromagnetic disturbance is atright angles (transverse) to the direction ofpropagation. In Maxwells words This velocity isso nearly that of light, that it seems we have strong

    reason to conclude that light itself [includingradiant heat, and other radiations, if any] is anelectromagnetic disturbance in the form of wavespropagated through the electromagnetic fieldaccording to the electromagnetic laws.

    Second, Maxwells equations demonstrate that thesquare of the refractive index of a medium is equalto theproduct of the specific dielectric capacity andthe specific magnetic capacity. These two resultstogether show clearly the relationship of light to theelectromagnetic field. [1]

    But this is not where the original idea of lighthaving a magnetic component came from. For the

    beginning of that mysterious relationship, we needto go back another 30 years, and to MichaelFaraday.

    Michael Faraday

    John Tyndall, in his book, Faraday as a Discoverer,1868, tells us about the work of Faraday. InNovember 1845, he announced his discovery ofthe Magnetization of Light and the Illumination ofthe Lines of Magnetic Force. This title provokedcomment at the ti me, and caused mi s-apprehension.[2]

    What was this discovery that Faraday made?

    Tyndall reports that Faraday discovered that apiece of this [his own manufacture of heavy] glass,about two inches square, and 0.5 inch thick, havingflat and polished edges, was placed as adiamagnetic between the poles (not as yetmagnetized by the electric current), so that thepolarized ray should pass through its length; theglass acted as air, water, or any other transparentsubstance would do; and if the eyepiece werepreviously turned into such a position that thepolarized ray was extinguished, or rather the imageproduced by it rendered invisible, then theintroduction of the glass made no alteration in thisrespect. In this state of circumstances, the force ofthe electromagnet was developed by sending anelectric current through its coils, and immediatelythe image of the lamp flame became visible andcontinued so as long as the arrangement continuedmagnetic. On stopping the electric current, and socausing the magnetic force to cease, the lightinstantly disappeared. These phenomena could berenewed at pleasure, at any time, and upon any

    Faraday Effect.In 1845 Faraday investigated the transmissionof plane-polarized light through a block ofglass in the presence of a magnetic field.

    The Kerr Effect.In 1876 J. Kerr showed that many isotropicsubstances, when placed in an electric field,behaved like a uniaxial crystal with the optic

    axis in the direction of the lines of force.

    Cotton-Bouton Effect.In 1905 Cotton and Bouton discovered amagneto-optical effect closely analogous tothe Kerr electro-optical double refraction.

    The Pockels effect.In 1906 F. Pockels discovered an electro-optical effect similar to the Kerr Effect but onlyin crystal that are also Piezoelectric. Thiseffect has switching times (picoseconds) an

    order of magnitude faster that the Kerr effectswitching time.

    occasion, showing a perfect dependence of causeand effect. [3] Did Faraday show that themagnetic field affected the light, by rotating itsplane of polarization? Or did he show that hisheavy glass, (and 150 and more aqueous

    solutions) had the ability of switching from non-polarizing to polarizing with the aid of a magneticfield.[4] The side bar lists the known relatedeffects.[5]

    Tyndall says, Many substances possess the powerof turning the plane of polarization without theintervention of magnetism. Oil of turpentine andquartz are examples:[6] Thin sheets of themineral tourmaline were used by Faraday topolarize light used in his tests.[7] In fact Faradayhad notions regarding the magnetization of lightwhich were peculiar to himself, and untranslatablein the scientific language of the time.[8]Faraday appeared to be so sure that the magneticfield was central to the process of crystalsinteracting with light that he even tested thediamagnetic crystal bismuth.

    He [Faraday] looks at the crystal acted upon bythe magnet. From its mass he passes, in idea, toits atoms, and he asks himself whether the powerwhich can thus seize upon the crystallinemolecules, after they have been fixed in their

    proper positions by crystallizing force, may not,when they are free, be able to determine theirarrangement? He, therefore, liberates the atomsby fusing the bismuth. He places the fusedsubstance between the poles of an electromagnet,powerfully excited; but he fails to detect any action.I think it cannot be doubted that an action isexerted here, that a true cause comes into play; butits magnitude is not such as sensible to interferewith the force of crystallization, which, incomparison with the diamagnetic force, isenormous. Perhaps, adds Faraday, if a longertime were allowed, and a permanent magnet used,a better result might be obtained. I had built manyhopes upon the process[9]

    He then examined gases; but all his efforts toproduce any sensible action upon the polarizedbeam were ineffectual.[10]

    M. Verdet has since discovered that i f aparamagnetic body, such as solution of perchlorideof iron in ether, be substituted for the diamagneticbody, the rotation is in the opposite direction.[11]

    Source of the Misnomer

    This table below summarizes the results thatFaraday reported to the scientific community.

    So, in the face of fact that the magnetic field byitself did not cause any effect on the polarization oflight, Faraday proclaimed that light could bemagnetized, based solely on the results of theheavy glass experiment.

    For ten years Faraday ran experiment afterexperiment that showed electricity and magnetismintrinsically linked together. So when he decidedthat l ight had a magnetic component, heautomatically assumed that light must also have anelectric component.

    Maxwell had developed his equations that showedmag ne tism a nd e le ct rici ty l in ke d. So h eperpetuated this same assumption.

    But static electricity flows on the surface ofmaterials, and has no associated magnetic fields.

    A simple experiment will show this. Using amagnetic compass as a primitive gauss meter todetect magnetic fields, and transparent tape as asource of static electricity, let us do a test. Stripinga segment of tape off of a roll of transparent tape isa simple way to generate a large static field withcommon household materials. Place the compasson a flat surface, away from all metals. On eitherthe East or the West side of the compass, pull astrip of tape off of the roll, while the roll is within afew (1 to 2) inches of the compass. (Close but nottouching.) If there was a magnetic field generatedduring the creation of the static field, the compasswould have reacted.

    The compass will not tell us how strong the

    magnetic field is, but, will distinguish between noneand some.

    So, the movement of surface (static) electricity hasno magnetic field, while the movement of bulk

    (current) electricity does. This [experiment] saysthat the magnetic field is associated with thebulk conductor metal, and not the electricity.

    The flow of electricity triggers the bulk metals togenerate a magnetic field, exactly like a lodestonedoes naturally. And, the magnetic field triggers theheavy glass to polarize light, exactly like tourmalinedoes naturally.

    Was Faradays conclusion justified?

    On the basis of this evidence, can we acceptFaradays conclusion, that light has a magnetic andelectric components?

    In the late 1960s, my company submitted anunsolicited proposal to the US Justice Department.It recommended the study of the non-lethal aircannon I developed in the early 1950s. My friendscalled it a "Super Pooper," because its beam ofMach disc vortex pairs could induce visceralresonance.

    My non-lethal approach to riot control wasreportedly rejected because it dismissed fear ofdeadly force to favor exploitation of personalhumiliation.

    To pick up on earlier US interest in the Mach discaircraft cannon, invented too late to save Germany,one should review progress reports from the sixuniversity research consortium sponsored by a USNavy and Air Force PROJECT SQUID authority. Atthis t ime I was privi leged to be able to do

    experimental work for my mentor, Dr. R. P. Shaw.Shaw's PROJECT SQUID Job, at the NYU

    Institute of Mathematics & Mechanics, was todesign and build a resonant macrosonic vortexMach disc particle beam generator. The Machdisc describes the virtual energy field carried bythe central hole in a smoke ring like super-spin

    vortex. The Mach disc's 50 billion Pascal pressurestanding-wave structure requires that thetoroidal-spin exceed "normal" VELOCITY limits.Shaw's mathematical mastery made it possible forme to create a non-lethal embodiment and the USNews & World Report's, July 7, 1997, "WonderWeapons" cover story brought this non-lethalwonder weapon prototype to light.

    To confirm the physical reality of a Mach discslipline's 50 Giga-Pascal force field, see "ShockWaves in Condensed Matter - 1983" (ElseiverScience Publishers, Chapter V : 7). Here, Morris,McQueen and Marsh (Dynamic Testing Division ofthe Los Alamos National Laboratory) confirmentropy-flow differentiation with "Mach DiscFormation in Cylindrical Recovery Systems".

    "At the triple point where the Mach stem (state 3),the incident shock (state 1) and the reflected shock(state 2) all come together, by necessity, a sliplineis present. The region of flow above the slipline isthe result of a two shock process, whereas the flowbelow the slipline is the result of a single shockprocess (the Mach stem). The pressure must be

    the same on both sides of the slipline so that thematerial velocity is in general different across theslipline. This is because single and double shockstates at the same pressure are at differententropy states."

    The experimenters used C-4 explosive with adetonation velocity of 8 km/s. This is 133% fasterthan initial plain shock waves for "ordinary"equations of state for the Mach disc. Givenappropriate geometry, this velocity overdrivestimulates excess entropy production so "the Machdisc diameter changes very little with additionalhigh-explosive. To illustrate the effect of howrelative shock-impedances of the components ofthe capsule affect the diameter of the Mach disc,one shot was fired with the radiating sample beingBromoform (CHBr3) rather than carbontetra-chloride (CCl4)."

    Despite their widely differing shock-impedances,either CHBr3 or CCl4 can reveal the Mach disc'sinvisible energy structure through their stimulated

    radiation signature. Furthermore, the Mach disc'sextraordinary spin-velocity may even bypassEinstein's Locality Principle since publishedexperiments reveal Mach disc-like superluminalstructure. Given the required electromagnetic spinwaves, one could, in Shaw's words, "punch a holein the fabric of time."
