Hagridgives it to him together, with a note fromProfessor Dumbledore. “It’s about You-Know-What in vault You-Know-Which” he whispers.Harry cannot quite follow their conversation. The goblin takes them to vault 713, where thereis nothing but a small packet Hagrid takes.Later they go to Ollivanders’ to get a wand. After different attempts Mr. Ollivander finds theright wand for Harry and exclaims “Curious, very curious… The Phoenix, whose tail featheris in your wand, only gave another destined tothe one who gave you that scar. The wandchooses the wizard, Mr. Potter” explains
Ollivander. “You are destined to great thingsMr. Potter”.Hagrid arrives and gives Harry an owl as abirthday present. Now Harry knows:• not all wizards are good, some of them go bad,
like Voldemort;• He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named killed his
parents and gave him the scar;• the scar on his forehead is the mark of a curse;• nobody knows where Voldemort is;• Harry has something that hit Voldemort that
night, that’s why he is still alive and famous.
All students to Hogwarts must be
equipped with a wand, a cauldron,
and may bring, if they desire, an owl
or a cat or a toad.
