Great things are happening at Mission of Mercy! We continue to partner

with various agencies to offer new and creative programs, services, and classes

to our patients at no cost to them.

We recently partnered with STCH Ministries to offer two new 10 week

free classes which include “Faith & Work” and “Faith & Finances”.

“Faith & Finances” classes will educate our patients on how to focus

on creating a spending plan that works, managing debt, applying for

loans, saving money and more. “Faith & Work” classes will assist our

patients with skills in resume writing, interviewing, networking, communicating and more.

Mission of Mercy wants to empower, educate and equip our patients with the tools they need to

improve not only their health, but their lives as a whole.

New Classes...

Our spotlight shines brightly on Wesley Nurses of Methodist Healthcare

Ministries who have been a blessing to Mission of Mercy since the first

mobile clinic 11 years ago.

Over the years, these nurses have brought many helpful programs to our

patients including diabetes education, one on

one nutrition counseling, A1C testing, healthy cooking classes, flu

shots, and other free medical services. They focus on a holistic

approach of mind, body and spirit with each patient.

Wesley Nurses are compassionate and offer a helping hand to not only

our patients, but to many other organizations all over South Texas. The

Wesley Nurse program spans more than 90 sites throughout South Texas and is Methodist

Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc.'s largest geographic outreach program.

Jesse Villarreal Volunteer of the Year

Jesse has volunteered at Mission of Mercy for over a year now and he serves as an interpreter. He was a patient in 2006 when he became unemployed and lost his health insurance. He was diagnosed with diabetes. Mission of Mercy helped him when he needed it the most and he wanted to pay it forward and help other patients. Jesse says “I find volunteering rewarding and enjoy helping the patients out and I’m thankful I can help others especially those with diabetes like myself.”

Angie Martinez Impact Award

Angie became a volunteer in 2011, was hired in June 2015 as the Administrative Assistant and is now the Clinic Office Manager. Angie considers working at Mission of Mercy “God’s calling.” She loves the patients, volunteers and most important, the mission. “It’s the one place I know that people come to when they have been told no and are received with “yes”, we can and will help you. I love being someone’s last hope.”

Sponsorships start at $1,000 and Tickets are $125 each Contact Jennifer at 361-883-5500 x112 or register

Our 2019 Honorees

Dr. Sandra Rodrigues Impact Award

Dr. Rodrigues is a physician and became a volunteer in June 2014. She liked the idea of helping others so when she left her previous position she decided it was time to volunteer. Sandra says her favorite thing about volunteering at Mission of Mercy is the satisfaction she feels in helping others. “When I see people who have diabetes improve, start doing better and feeling better, that is what I find satisfying.”

Dr. Arnoldo Villarreal Impact Award

Dr. Villarreal is an Ophthalmologist and became a volunteer in June 2018. He helped create and implement our new Vision Clinic at Mission of Mercy. He has been instrumental in securing the equipment needed and helping to find volunteer staff for the Vision Clinic. Nursing Director Lynette Navar says, “ Without Dr. Villarreal, I do not know if we could have gotten the Vision Clinic up and running. He is so passionate about our patients and our mission.”

Coastal Bend Day of Giving….

The Coastal Bend Day of Giving event was a huge success for not only Mission of Mercy but also for the other 49 participating nonprofit organizations. On December 6, 2018, the Coastal Bend Community Foundation held a check presentation at the First United Methodist Church. Sherry Bowers, Executive Director along with Mission of Mercy Leadership Council and national board members Andy Crocker and Jose Trejo where on hand to accept the check for $70,623. CHRISTUS Spohn Health System recently awarded over $260,000 to several local nonprofit organizations in the Coastal Bend. Mission of Mercy was selected and received $75,000 to assist with patient care. These funds help Mission of Mercy provide programs and services at the Medical Center located in Corpus Christi and the mobile clinic in Sandia. They have also donated over $4M in kind services including x-rays, blood work, etc. in the past several years!

Community Challenge….

Local businessman and philanthropist Mr. Eugene "Gene" Bouligny has extended a community challenge pledging a $200,000 gift. Mission of Mercy will seek support to match this challenge from other community supporters to meet the match starting on January 1, 2019 through June 30, 2019! Pledges cannot be counted towards his challenge. Executive Director, Sherry Bowers, has accepted the challenge and encourages everyone to consider giving a gift of any amount to assist our patients with free medical care, vision care, diabetes education, healthy cooking classes and more!

Mission of Mercy relies on the generosity of individual donors, corporations, churches, and foundations to raise the revenue needed to provide our programs and services. We do not receive any state or federal government funding. We strive to build strong collaborative and mutually beneficial partnerships with public and private agencies and community organizations who share our vision. Commemorative opportunities are appropriate ways to honor beloved family members, friends, or others. Donors will be listed on the Donor Recognition Wall along with a custom made tile by Aloe Tile.

Welcome New Volunteers..

Volunteer “Caribbean Christmas” Luncheon….

In December we held our Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Texas State Aquarium. It was an afternoon filled with fun and fellowship. Volunteers enjoyed mingling with a few aquarium critters, feasted on wonderful lunch of King Ranch casserole and amazing cheese cake in the CITGO Skyline Venue, and then a leisurely stroll through the aquarium.
