OUTSTANDING LEARNERS
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS OUTSTANDING FUTURES
No. 2, 12th February 2020
Principal’s Report…
Our school year has started well and students have settled quickly into classes. Thank you to parents, staff and
students for the smooth and positive start to the year.
This year we are focussing on student attendance. There is a strong correlation between good attendance and
academic success. The best opportunity for student success is in class with their classroom teacher. Our whole school
target for each student is 95% attendance. This equates to 2-3 days absent per term. I ask that you work on this with
your son/daughter so we can work together to reach our school target.
This week sees several
significant school
events occur. On
Tuesday was our Big
Day Out for all year
levels. This annual
event provides each
year level with
opportunity to build
leadership and
teamwork skills while
getting to know their
cohort, Year Level Coordinator and teachers. Thank you to the parents who
ensured that permission slips and payments were made by the due date to assist
with catering and organisation.
On Wednesday, we held our
Badge Ceremony. This is our
induction of the Student
Council representatives for
the school and the
presentation of senior
badges to our Year 12
students. Thank you to the
parents/family members
who attended.
P&C Meeting – Next Meeting Thursday, 13th February 2020. All welcome!

On Thursday afternoon we are holding our ‘Meet the Teachers’ event, 4.45pm -5.45pm – an informal afternoon where
students have opportunity to introduce their teachers to their parents. It is always wonderful to meet our new
parents and student families. The P&C meeting will be held directly after this at 6.00pm in the Administration
building and we welcome all parents to this meeting.
As an Independent Public School we have a School Council that meets twice a term and have recently asked for parent
nominations. Thank you to those who have applied. We will be appointing new council members shortly.
As mentioned in our last newsletter, our school will be undergoing a School Review, March 16-18. This is a process
that occurs every 4 years and the outcomes help drive the development of our new 4 year Strategic Plan. The Review
team will be seeking feedback from all stakeholders – students, parents, staff and community so we will be asking
parents if they would be willing to either have a face to face or phone interview with a member of the review team.
Please consider volunteering as your opinions do count and contribute to the review. If you would be willing to be
interviewed, please call the office and give your name and details. It would be greatly appreciated. Information
about the School Review is available on our website.
Lastly, our Containers for Change program continues in 2020 even though our initial fundraising was for Air-
conditioning we continue to collect containers to assist raising money for replacement of old air-conditioners and to
assist the environment. I would like to thank a number of anonymous donors and some from members of the public
who have kindly donated containers for our school. We really do appreciate your generosity. Last year we raised just
over $3000.
The installation of Air-conditioners has made an enormous difference to the comfort of classrooms in the past 2
weeks and while we have not achieved 100% of the air conditioning units working in all classrooms yet, the majority of
classrooms are now air-conditioned and students and staff are able to work in a productive, comfortable learning
environment.
As the school year has begun, please do not hesitate to call the office if you have any queries or concerns. We hope
2020 will be a very productive and successful year for all.

School Swimming Carnival – Friday, 21st February
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie !!!!!! That is the theme for this years Bundaberg North High swimming carnival. The
swimming carnival will be held on Friday, 21st February at Norville Pool.
All students will leave North High and travel by bus to the Norville Pool for the day. There are no organised
classes at school as everyone will be at the pool. The cost for the day is $2 per student, and this is payable as
the students get on the bus. Students should wear either their school uniform, their house colours or in the
theme of Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! However, their correct leather/vinyl shoes must be worn and can then be
changed at the pool.
Students should bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle
and a sunsafe shirt. It is a great day and we hope to
see all students participating. There are competitive
and social events throughout the day. Students
should bring their lunch but can also access the

Uniforms – update on shorts
Thank you to the many parents who have for ensured their son/daughter
has checked and followed the uniform expectations for students.
Remember that black leather/vinyl covered shoes are required for all
students with either white/black ankle socks. Please read the jewellery,
hair/make up expectations and ensure students are aware. Our
expectations are found on the website and in the homework diary. We
have given students the first 2 weeks to get their uniform organised. We
will be continually monitoring student uniform.
We are still waiting for our SHORTS order to arrive at LOWES. With the Coronavirus outbreak and the Chinese New
Year, LOWES are unsure of the impact on the order but we will notify you when the order has arrived.
In the meantime as mentioned in our first newsletter, students who do not have school shorts are able to wear plain
black shorts (mid thigh length). We apologise for the inconvenience.
If you have any queries about the uniform please contact the office.
