New Beginnings Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu Mix Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. All contributions are tax deductible. The dogs profiled in our newsletters are in foster homes throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota.
January 2006 Hoping for a Home
January Newsletter is sponsored by Lynn Beard in honor of her Mom, Helen McClure. “She instilled in me her great love of all creatures and Mother earth. She was a remarkable woman.” .
Two year old Donnie was abused, and is now hunting for someone who will love him. He’s good with other dogs, and fine with sharing toys and food. He is working on house training and learning to trust. Donnie needs a female owner with dog experience.
Remember our exclusive design “Way of The Dog” tee shirts (only $12 + $2 s&h) … they are available for adoption also, and proceeds help us help the dogs!
Ginger is a beautiful apricot colored tzu, estimated at 12. She warms your heart with her crooked smile and singing. Ginger is fully vetted with a clean bill of health. She is housetrained, loves walks and a lap or a seat next to you on the couch. Ginger will need to be an only dog. She will become your shadow and best friend. Ginger is being fostered in Gages Lake, IL.
Ziggy is a 9 year old who is learning trust and obedience. He weighs 9 pounds, is bright and sociable, and enjoys visiting with people at Petco. He is in training to be a good pet for some lucky owner.
Buster is 4-5 years old and 16 lbs. He has hyperthyroidism and takes a pill once a day to take care of this. His favorite spot is snuggling with his foster mom on the sofa, being a little (medium-sized) love.
Roxie is a very active 1 year old girl who loves to give kisses and is working on
housetraining. Roxie has a gorgeous coat with a silver sheen over her face and chest. She had been kept in the basement because a child in the family has asthma; now she delights in freedom. Roxie will need a home with someone with puppy experience and obedience training would be great for her.
Skitch is a happy 1 year old guy. He needs a family with children who would love and play with him.
Casey, 4 years old and 13# of cuddle, came into rescue very recently from a home with too much activity. She is a little shy, and afraid of vacuum cleaners, but wonderful. Casey is housetrained, looking for a home that will love her and give her serenity. She is being fostered in WI.

Our goal is to match the best dog with the best home, our goal is to rescue those who need us. Some dogs find their forever homes within a month; some need to stay in rescue. Perhaps their age or their medical conditions, their fears or their appearance makes them “unadoptable.” But love doesn’t come with conditions. Would you like to help us, help them?
Faith is an elderly female Shih Tzu whose owner was hospitalized for five weeks and subsequently passed away. Faith was left on her own in an empty house. She has health concerns that have gone long unaddressed, including infections in both ears, eyes irritated by ingrown lashes, and Cushings disease, diagnosed three years ago but untreated. Cushings has caused Faith to lose most of her body hair, so she must wear sweaters to stay warm. We will make certain that Faith spends the remainder of her life having her significant health needs addressed, in a home abundant in love and compassion.
If you are interested in helping us help Faith, you may donate by contacting Aggie Wood, NBSTR coordinator, at [email protected] or by phone: 920-722-3070. With luck and love, Faith will live the rest of her years in optimal health, knowing that she is treasured.
Look for profiles of special dogs on our website. If a story or a picture touches you, if you would like to earmark a donation for special needs (“for dogs with arthritis”) or a special dog (“Beau, hunting for love, not sure he can find it”) please do so. Updates on our special dogs will also appear regularly on the website.

Looking Back, Looking Ahead…Happily
If you have adopted a New Beginnings dog and would like to share stories and pictures, please do! Everyone loves happy endings.
Annie (Ruanne) with Santa.
Annie is the spoiled darling we always wanted her to be. She
has a very special mommy who is so delighted with her that she calls several times a
week to brag about her.
Jack (renamed Sam for Samwise Gamgee), is settling into his new home, sleeping on his back and
snoring.
Abby is doing wonderful. She had her haircut and looks so cute. During the day she's Grandpa's dog and they watch a lot of TV (with their eyes closed!). Once I get home, she becomes my dog. We go for little walks, do some laundry, work in the kitchen where she's always right under my feet, etc. and then we watch a little TV with some more snuggling - she does love to snuggle!
Trooper, 1 1/2 years old and 15 lbs, was one of the most wonderful, happy boys we have had. Found almost
starved in a State Park in MN. and nursed back to health and vetted by a foster mom with the Boston Terrier Rescue, he was adopted within 5 days to someone on our waiting list and is now with a wonderful family and a Shih Tzu brother the same age to play with!!
Valerie Anne Lindell
2005 has been a year of triumphs, joys, fears, and happiness. Also sorrow, which molds us as surely as our joys. Valerie, one of our members, died in 2005. Thank you to all those who remember her, her goals of giving to the community and the world, and her spirit. Thank you to those who contributed to New Beginnings as a memorial.
Welcome Home: When Jack’s new family came to pick him up, he was so happy and excited to see them, he lifted his paws up to get their attention and say he was indeed ready to go home with them. Remember the movie? Her new mom came home, but Annie, renamed Ruanne, was not where she belonged. Instead, Ruanne’s mother found the scamp snuggled amid a collection of stuffed animals on the sofa, impersonating ET, quite pleased with herself. Trooper was a little boy found abandoned and almost starved in a MN state park. He was fostered in the Mpls area and found his forever home. Mickey now makes his home with a Westie and his new family where he is very loved.
Wendy, a little blind dog who was fostered in MN, is now living with her forever mom, also named Wendy. Many happy years of love and togetherness to the Wendys.
Cosmo and Gizmo’s new mother has waited for a long time for a dog companion, and is thrilled to have this pair be part of her family. When they met the dogs jumped into her lap and told her that SHE was the one! Congratulations to Andrea, John, Cosmo, and Gizmo. Lily, a Japanese Chin-Shih Tzu mix came home to the hearts of her foster parents, June and Roger.

Greetings to all New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue volunteers, friends, and supporters:
2005 was a year with a lot of memories, many, many accomplishments, and some sadness.
We now have 43 members in several states, and continue to grow. The newsletter you are reading is received in vet clinics,
shelters, humane societies, Petco locations, foster homes, and the homes of friends of rescue.
In 2005, we brought 35 dogs into our foster program; adopting 23 of them into forever homes; two went to the Rainbow
Bridge. We have ten dogs in our foster program now, and many foster homes with spaces, waiting for dogs to come into
our rescue.
Among all the success there were a few sad moments: one of our members, Valerie Lindell, my mom, and Patti's father
passed away during the holidays, and others have lost loved ones during the year. They, as well as Gina, Buffy, and JJ are
always with us in spirit. May we cherish their memories forever.
For all you have contributed this year, in prayers, good wishes, donations, thoughts, foster homes, transports, advice, and
information, a deep thank you. All of us work together in our goal of rescuing, educating, and finding forever homes.
Happy New Year!! May your 2006 bring the fruition of long term dreams, and many doggie kisses.
