OSNR criteria will vary based on the bit rate and type of modulation used
• 100G product mainly based on DP-QPSK
• Specific versions of 100G products available today for different reach targets
• 100G ULH: 11 dB
• 100G LH: 14 dB
• 100G MR: 17 dB
• 100G MA: 20 dB
• 200G/400G products based on 16QAM modulation
• OSNR EOL criteria: 20 dB

Hybrid Amplification—Driving 200G to New Lengths
Combining EDFA with Raman amps brings 4 to 6 dB additional dB on OSNR
• Regional links running 100G DP-QPSK become eligible for 200G applications based on 16QAM modulation
200G/400G links using 200Gb/s optical channels need minimum 20dB OSNR
• Regional distance spans are below this threshold—typically around 17 dB
• OK for 100G but not enough for 200G, until now
