Our Bank has been setting benchmarks and leading the drive in digitising banking

to make its services available to customers anytime, anywhere. The latest in our ‘Go Digital – Bank aapki mutthi mein’ kitty is the introduction of WatchBanking on the Apple iWatch, marking our foray into the ‘wearables’ segment of devices.

The Apple iWatch India launch is expected in a few months and reports show that there are expected to be roughly one million iWatch users in the country by 2016 – a definite game-changer. With the launch of the new app, HDFC Bank becomes the first bank in India to launch WatchBanking for Apple iWatch.

A feature-rich appForeseeing the demand for wearable devices, the team chose features that customers would most need on-the-go.

“We actually started building the app when Apple announced iWatch, way back in November last year… We have started with Apple iWatch since it is designed from the ground up, keeping in mind what the user

would want to do with such a device in a jiffy. HDFC Bank’s App has been made keeping this in mind and the features are chosen accordingly,” said Mr Nitin Chugh, Head, Digital Banking, adding that going ahead the Bank plans to extend WatchBanking across all wearable platforms including Android.

Customers can activate

WatchBanking from an upgraded

version of the Bank’s MobileBanking app, thus saving on another

download. In the initial phase,

WatchBanking will allow users to perform 10 basic banking transactions such as view account information, make bill payment,

recharges, hotlist card facility, locate nearest branch/ATM/offers,

and request statement/cheque

book. In the near future the Bank also plans

to allow users to pay bills of pre-added billers, access notifications for bill payments and notifications

about offers based on locations.

Security always a priorityAs it is with all its recently launched apps, security of transactions has been given top priority. The team ensures that WatchBanking enjoys the same level of high security that Mobile and Internet Banking provides our customers.

Any information that is entered in the app is secure on the Bank server with the watch only being a projection device. Also there is a WatchBanking pin set by the user on first use, which can be done after the user enters his/her customer ID and password. Additionally the watch itself has a passcode lock.

The app with its sleek and intuitive interface has ensured banking is now a lot closer and more convenient to its customers, allowing them to make banking transactions at the touch of a finger.

How does it work? Customer texts <CALLME> or gives a missed call on 07043370433. RM will receive a system generated call from +91-7940157035 OR +91-2653321205.

RM will hear the customer’s name before the system dials the call to the customer. Once the RM answers the call, the system will simultaneously dial the customer’s

mobile number and both calls will get connected. In case RM is unable to answer the call for any reason, the system will dial the

Changing lives through skill training

Leenus Vinod, a 23-year-old youth, worked at a restaurant as a cook earning about `7,000 per month. Son of an ex-Army man with four siblings to support, his family was surviving on a very small income. In his own words, lack of computer

knowledge had restricted him from moving to any higher paying job opportunity.

Things soon changed for Leenus, who was introduced to the skill development programme run with the aid of HDFC Bank and Hope Foundation.

Trained with IT skills, Leenus now works for Dell, as a software installer, with a monthly salary of `15,000 and a career to look forward to.

His proud father, overjoyed at seeing him work at an MNC, thanked HDFC Bank for “teaching values of life and computer skills” to his son, ensuring a bright future.

A helping hand

In an effort to support the education of the girl child, the North Kerala Circle Branch team organised a funding drive. All 63 branch locations in the Circle contributed by selling old office equipment, paper waste, etc.

A total of `1.15 lac was collected, which was contributed to Sukritham

Girls Home. The cheque was handed over by Mr Navin Puri, Branch Banking Head, on July 14, 2015, during the town hall meeting. Sukritham is a home for orphaned girls, established in Kozhikode, to nurture and support abandoned and impoverished girls. The home provides guardianship to the girls, providing a safe environment for them to grow and learn.

Getting eye healthy

A health check-up camp was organised for Bank employees at Kanjurmarg (Mumbai) on July 1-3, 2015.

The camp focused on eye care and

got an overwhelming response. In fact, registrations were full by the very next day of the announcement. The target participation for the event was 500 employees and the camp successfully closed with participation of 921 employees.

Financial results for Q1 declared The Board of Directors approved our Bank’s (Indian GAAP) results for the quarter ended June 30, 2015, at a meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday, July 21, 2015. The accounts have been subjected to a ‘Limited Review’ by the statutory auditors of the Bank.

Highlights Total income: `16,503 crore,

up 26.3 per cent over Q1 FY 2014 Net revenues (net interest

income plus other income): `8,850.7, up 26 per cent Profit before tax: `4,121.9 crore,

up 22.6 per cent Net profit: `2,695.7 crore, up

20.7 per cent

As of June 30, 2015, the Bank’s distribution network was at 4,101

branches and 11,962 ATMs. In this quarter 87 new branches and 196 new ATMs were opened; 55 per cent of branches are now in the semi-urban and rural areas.

30-minute auto loan, 15-minute two-wheeler loan launched

One June 29, 2015, our Bank launched an auto loan service that disburses funds in just 30 minutes using biometric technology.

The 30-minute auto loan is available for HDFC Bank customers, as well as others. With this technology-enabled solution, loans for two-wheelers are also approved within 15 minutes.

With this launch, any person wishing to avail of a loan can walk into an auto dealership or any other touch points of the Bank and provide

The biometric technology available at the point of customer contact will match these details against consolidated information accessed from several databases to authenticate customer profile. If eligible, based on the profile, the loan will then be approved with minimal documentation required from the customer within record time.

“Customer convenience lies at the heart of our digital banking initiatives. We believe the 30-minute auto loan will be the next level in financing and addressing customer needs. If a customer walks in to an auto dealership, they can walk out with the vehicle the same day itself, which was not the case earlier,” said Mr Ashok Khanna, Senior Executive Vice President, Business Head (Vehicle Loans).

Haryana gets 300th branch On July 8, 2015, our Bank marked the 300th branch milestone in Haryana. The urban branch located at Ramnagar, Karnal, was inaugurated by Mr Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of the state, in the presence of Mr Govind Pandey, Branch Banking Head, HDFC Bank, and other senior officials.

The branch will cater to the local population of around 70,000 in and around the neighbourhood as well as the rest of the city of Karnal, giving them access to the full range of HDFC Bank’s products and services.

First responder training held for Surat police On July 7, 2015, a training programme for first responders in banking services related crimes was held for the Surat police force in Gujarat. The programme endeavours to update the skill sets of law enforcement authorities and enhance their ability to tackle

economic offences in the banking space.

In Surat, the programme was inaugurated by Mr Rakesh Asthana, Commissioner of Police, Surat, and Mr Harish Sharma, Deputy Vice President, Risk Intelligence and Control.

This training is part of HDFC Bank’s larger Secure Banking initiative, aimed at engaging with all its key


stakeholders to improve banking security across different channels. Close to 70 police officers attended the seminar in Surat.

Our Bank at Secure BFSI Conclave

Mr Sameer Ratolikar, CISO, Information Security Group, represented our Bank as a panelist at the third Secure BFSI Conclave held on April 10, 2015, in Mumbai.The one-day conclave brought

together banking, insurance and financial institutions.

The conference focused on two aspects of BFSI function – Information/Cyber Security and Fraud & Risk Management.

Mr Ratolikar discussed how Bank Information Security has controls or counter measures in place to deal with the increasing scope of cyber crimes.

A round-up of the many achievements of our Bank’s corporate sports teams

Mumbai footie champs win big! Our Mumbai football team has been winning accolades for the Bank with its consistent wins not only in Mumbai but across the country.

After having won in Mumbai, Pune, Goa and Bengaluru, over the last few years, the team added Delhi to the lists by lifting the inaugural Mahou 5

a-side corporate league cup held at Plaza Farms, Chattarpur.

The team claimed their prize of a full paid trip to Spain, which includes the chance to see a Spanish La Liga game (Real Madrid Team) live.

Making the win even more special is the fact that it is the team’s 125th win. Delhi cricketers win DN Cup

The HDFC Bank Cricket Team won the 2nd Edition of the DN Cup Cricket Tournament held at Rajokari Grounds, Delhi. The event had 16 corporate teams participate, all based out of Delhi-NCR.

Our team won all the matches on their road to the Finals – the only team to remain unbeaten throughout the event.

The Finals saw the team face off against Black Hawks (IGL) on June 7, 2015.

Clinching the win with a decisive 69 runs, our players picked up several accolades as well.

Bengaluru team ties Finals of Birla Premier Tournament

Around 16 teams (mostly banks and brokerages) from the city vied for this

prestigious trophy held at the RSI Grounds. The team beat ICICI Bank in the Pre-quarters; Citibank in the Quarterfinals and Standard Chartered in the Semifinals.

In the finals, our bowlers contained Anand Rathi Securities to a mere 40 runs in the allotted overs. The batsmen then took over, scoring 18 runs in 2 overs before rains stopped play. In the end, both teams were

declared joint winners. It is the first major 20/20 tournament victory in Bengaluru.

Ashish Paul brought home the Best Batsman of the Tournament trophy.

Pune team wins Pratham Corporate League

Our Pune cricket team was crowned the Pratham Corporate League Champions 2015. Organised by Pratham Sports Foundation, the

event saw participation from eight corporates in Pune.

The Finals were played against Venky’s India, who put up a huge score of 218 in their allotted 20 overs. Although an imposing total, our team held their nerve and approached the target with clinical precision. With 3 runs required from the last ball, it was a nail-biting finish with Manoj Ingale hitting a boundary to give HDFC Bank a truly deserved victory.

P Neelakandan, Key Account Manager – Merchant Acquiring, had the opportunity to attend an

international cycling event held in Sweden on June 13, 2015. The event was a 300km rally to be completed in 20 hours. A team of 11 under the Riders Club named Ryders Team Jammy (owned by the Indian actor Arya) joined 32,000 global participants.

Starting off at Lake Vattern and finishing at Motala, he completed the rally in 17 hours.

Manager – East, has been in the Bank for over 12 years. Outside of work she is a widely published poet and has been featured in the media on several occasions. Last month, one of her poems was featured in a Spanish magazine as well. We feature the poem here:
