The problems we are addressing with our
advanced technology solutions….
Growing trends & demands in the maritime industry – Needs addressing
Ships are getting bigger with different equipment from ship to ship.
Information from the Ships instruments can be prone to errors or failure.
Vessel traffic is increasing especially near ports and harbours.
Tighter maneuvering margins and smaller error margins.
Greater attention to safety and efficiency by regulatory authorities.
Ports are expanding to accommodate increase in volume and traffic.
Ports are expanding by making high investments in infrastructure resulting
in greater risk of losses if damage occurs.
Shorter turn-around times make a high pressure work environment.
Pressures to reduce operational costs in the work environment.
Advancements in technology are leading to growing adoption of it. PPU use is
in fact mandatory in many ports & terminals across the world
What is a Portable Pilot Unit?
A Portable Pilot Unit is an electronic aid to navigation. It is a
portable electronic system that gives the user a true representation
of what is happening outside the window, on a screen, along with
other useful data.
It is a system which consists of the following components:• Sensors (Hardware) • Display (Laptop/Tablet)• Software (ECS)• Charts (ENC)
What data can we get from a PPU?
Use of PPUs has various benefits
Get real-time SITUATIONAL AWARENESS on ECS
Accuracy, reliability and familiarity for the user. Becomes an
invaluable companion tool.
Usage helps increase safety due to increased accurate & real-
time situational awareness.
Complete Situational Awareness of the ship-handling operation
and surrounding elements.
Easy to carry, lightweight and portable. Yet rugged and robust
for tough conditions.
Secondary source of information (to validate information from
primary sources).
Invaluable in confined manoeuvres, low visibility and rough
weather conditions.
Usage helps increase work efficiency by reducing downtime
and errors or repeat attempts.
Pilot Plug
based PPU
Single antenna
wireless PPU
Fully independent
Dual antenna PPUs
Fixed solution for
situational awareness
Specialised PPU for Offshore Oil & Gas industry maneuvers
• Provides AIS position
• Smoothes the ships’
heading
• mGNSS back-up
receiver (if AIS fails)
• GP Plus – independent
mGNSS position
antenna for the GP
• Receives SBAS
corrections
• Each weighs 300gms
with >24 hour battery
life
• Free of Pilot Plug
• Independent mGNSS
position with SBAS
corrections
• Independent high-
accuracy ROT from
it’s gyro
• Semi-independent
Heading data
• Unique product with
no equivalent in
market
• Weighs 800 gm with
15 hour battery life.
• The ultimate PPU –
Fully independent of
vessel information
• mGNSS position.
Available in L1 and
L1/L2 bands.
• Receives SBAS
corrections
• L2 band gives the
Triton more data to
work with.
• Independent ROT
• Independent Heading
• Fixed & Variable MSEP
options from dual
antenna
• Fully independent of vessel
information
• mGNSS position. L1/L2
bands.
• Receives SBAS corrections
• Independent ROT
• Independent Heading
• Fixed installation on-board
the vessel.
• Option to link as many
displays as required for
crew to receive
synchronised, real-time
information.
• Works on a power output
with back-up battery
• Fully independent system
• Used to monitor the process of
mooring of offload tankers to
an FPSO/FSO/SBM.
• Provides situational awareness
about the dynamics of two
vessels during side-by-side
and tandem mooring during
offtake operations.
• Customisable and engineered
to requirements
• Special options available for
making operations more
robust like Emergency Shut
down (ESD), Hawser
monitoring etc.

What Our customers say about us…
"This is one more way to ensure greater security, so that we can make a manoeuvre in adverse conditions and in confined
spaces such as we have in the Port of Santos." - Bruno Tavares, Pilot, Port of Santos.
"I can do a better job using your equipment. This is after eight weeks of using your equipment and twenty eight years of
traditional piloting.
By using the predictor and rate of turn combined with speed, the ship can be kept precisely on the designated track around
bends in a narrow channel. It is further evident to me that I appear to learn from the equipment.
By using the equipment and also looking out the window I believe I have increased the database on which my mental
assessments are made. My pilotage skills without the equipment are thereby improved.“ - Captain Ted Lyons, Senior
Marine Pilot, Australia.
""Being able to use the ShuttlePilot equipment to predict where the FSO was going to be at the end of her swing, and hence
line the tanker up ready for her, probably saved two or three hours of chasing her tail during the swing" - Capt. David
Fortnum, Pilot, Bayu Undan FPSO operations, Australia
“Quick set-up. In most instances I have the PPU running with software in under 3 minutes. This is critical when boarding
vessels in strong currents. As a pilot I don’t just rely on one source of information.
The ChannelPilot has become an important addition to the navigation aids available to me on the vessel.
This PPU unit, combined with my visual reference, the radars and fathometer make my situational awareness much better
- Captain David Adrian, Matagorda Bay Pilots, USA.
“I’ve found GyroPilot’s ROT to be spot on and battery life to be excellent. Another pilot in our association has ordered one
based on my relating my experience with GyroPilot. Also, I can’t say enough good things about the after sales support I have
received.” – Captain Mike O’Brien, Mississippi River Pilots, USA.
