Now,ashumans,wecanidentifygalaxieslightyearsaway.Wecanstudyparticlessmallerthananatom,butwestillhaven'tunlockedthemysteryofthethreepoundsofmatterthatsitsbetweenourears.Buttoday,scientistspossessthecapabilitytostudyindividualneuronsandfigureoutthemainfunctionsofcertainareasofthebrain.Butahumanbraincontainsalmost100billionneurons,makingtrillionsofconnections.SoDr.Collinssaysit'slikelisteningtothestringssectionandtryingtofigureoutwhatthewholeorchestrasoundslike.Soasaresult,we'restillunabletocurediseaseslikeAlzheimer'sorautism,orfullyreversetheeffectsofastroke.Andthemostpowerfulcomputerintheworldisn'tnearlyasintuitiveastheonewe'rebornwith.
