1. Introduction

This report aims to present the current status of ProFouND Deliverable D7.3: Networking event to encourage partnership (scheduled to be delivered by month 25).

The Online Marketplace and Innovation Factory (OIF) platform developed as part of Deliverable 7.1 is to be used to achieve both this Deliverable (7.3; scheduled to be delivered by month 25), and that of Deliverable 7.2: Promotion of at least one falls prevention reference site, project or technology (again scheduled to be delivered by month 25).

As outlined in the previously submitted report on Deliverable 7.1, the European Falls Festival (EUFF) held in Stuttgart on 24-25th March 2015 at the Robert Bosch Krankenhaus was to act as this networking event, with the OIF being displayed and discussed during the course of the festival, as well as during the ProFouND Partner meeting held on Monday 23rd March.

The public area of the ProFouND website acts as the face of the project providing information to the community and the general public about the project. It is primarily directed at falls-related healthcare professionals and practitioners and also aims to inform members of the public (older people and their formal and informal carers) as well as European Institutions and falls-related organisations.

The OIF areas of the website can be viewed as a public resource but the additional functionalities (including the ability to initiate topics, manage discussion on own topics, contribute to other users topics and see comments) are only available to users logged in to the user login area of the ProFouND website http://ProFouND.eu.com/forums/forum/innovation-factory/.

Users are advised upon logging in to ProFouND that any information that they share on the website, either in the form of discussion content, uploaded research & briefing materials, or video sharing file formats, is, unless specifically stated, liable to be copied and redistributed by other users given the collaborative nature of the website. Similarly, this will also apply to users of the on-line Innovation Factory.

2. Launch of the OIF

The on-line Marketplace and Innovation Factory platform was subject to a “soft” launch at the end of February 2015.

This has taken place in three stages, outlined below and in Section 3.

Stage i: Pre-population

Pre-selected ProFouND partners from across national, regional, and local government and health & social care bodies, together with partner organisations and projects such as E-NOFalls, the European Connected Health Alliance (ECHAlliance), and strategic special interest bodies such as Age UK, were contacted and invited to register with the ProFouND website (if not already members) and populate the OIF with resource materials, suggested challenges & initial discussion.

A list of the organisations contacted is at Annex A. These comprise EIP AHA Action Group 2 members, totalling 18 commitments in more than 10 countries. This list should also be read in conjunction with the ProFouND partners in attendance at the partners’ meeting listed at Annex B.

Stage ii: ‘Informal’ launch

As a pre-task to the ProFouND Partnership meeting that took place on Monday 23rd March 2015 users were asked to test the partly pre-populated website and its functionality and to feedback on their initial experience of using the Innovation Factory.

At the Partnership meeting itself, after a brief presentation on the history and development of the OIF, a workshop took place which encouraged attendees to:

• Add content by:– Creating a challenge for discussion– Making a tailored comment on either a desired outcome / solution / implementation

OR

• Uploading resource materials to the ProFouND repository and adding comment in the relevantOIF section with a link to that resource.

• Providing general feedback on the functionality and ease of use.

A full list of delegates who attended the ProFouND consortium meeting is at Annex B.

3. Networking Event

The third stage of the “soft launch” approach outlined above satisfies Deliverable D7.3 - Networking event to encourage partnership working.

Stage iii: ‘Formal’ launch

The OIF, incorporating ongoing development and feedback from users, was launched and displayed publicly at the EU Falls Festival, Stuttgart, 24th – 25th March at the Robert Bosch Krankenhaus.

The Festival brought together leading academics, researchers, health care practitioners, clinicians, industry representatives and key stakeholders from across the globe to celebrate best practice research and innovation in the multidisciplinary study and implementation of falls prevention in older people. Further information on the event can be found at www.eufallsfest.eu

Over 200 people attended the event. A full list of delegates who attended the Festival is at Annex C.

The OIF was showcased over the two day festival via:

a. an exhibition stand in the ATRIUM of the Robert Bosch Krankenhaus during the two days ofthe Festival

The ECHAlliance stand exhibiting the OIF

b. a live ‘demonstration and discussion’ of the OIF as part of the Project Showcase Workshopon the afternoon of the 24th March

A full list of the 200 plus delegates who attended the Showcase Workshop is at Annex D.

4 Conclusions & Next Steps The OIF has been well received to date. A number of positive comments were received from delegates at the EU Falls Festival.

In the run up to the Falls Festival, and during ProFouND consortium meeting and Festival itself:

• new topics were created• unique individual users registered and created a new profile• posts were posted

Similarly, feedback has led to some changes being built into the functionality of the OIF to enhance user experience. For example, the response will now not post unless an appropriate component category is chosen (previously, the default setting had been to post a response under the ‘Challenge’ heading).

The next stage is to maintain the momentum generated by the interest shown at the EU Falls Festival and continue to develop both the content of the OIF and raise awareness of it amongst falls professionals as a resource.

The OIF aims to provide a platform for a wide range of stakeholders (including industry, academic researchers, healthcare professionals and practitioners) across Europe to collaborate on: scoping out the need for ICT based technologies for falls prevention and monitoring in specific regions and circumstances; identifying the most suitable falls prevention and monitoring technologies and developing plans for implementation.

A two-pronged approach is being adopted to encourage the generation of content and engagement with the OIF.

a. focussed involvement with local organisations in one region (Greater Manchester – a WHOAge Friendly City) including:

• Engagement with Age UK North West leads (e.g. Manchester Institute for Collaborative Researchon Ageing (MICRA) event held on 17th March 2015).

• Working with Manchester City Council as an ‘Age Friendly City’ to promote the OIF as a tool forpractitioners and interested parties

• Connecting with the Directors of Adult Social Services within the 10 AGMA local authorities.• Meeting with Central Manchester Foundation Trust Falls Team (part of Central Manchester

Intermediate Care Services) & the Pennine Care Foundation Trust Falls Partnership withinTrafford Community Services.

• Participating in the November 2015 Policy Week focus on ‘Science, Technology, and PublicPolicy’.

• Promotion through the Greater Manchester Connected Health Ecosystem.

b. Broader engagement with the wider community at a European level of the technologyindustries, clinicians, health care practitioners, researchers and academics working on fallsprevention and monitoring, through:

Page 7: Networking event to encourage partnership between stakeholders

7

• Promotion of the OIF through the ECHAlliance network of Connected Health Ecosystems, with aview to running a co-delivered event in both Manchester and another similarly well-developedEcosystem on the subject of Active Ageing / Health Living, in which the work of ProFouND andthe OIF will be showcased and promoted.

• Working with Work Package 8 Leaders, to identify national and local partnership networkswhere the use of technology has been identified as part of best-practice.

• Working with the EIP AHA B3 Group members in NHS Scotland to build upon the work they havealready undertaken in developing an ICT & Teleservices directory.

• Working with the EIP AHA A2 Group members to promote the work they have done inidentifying best practice reference sites for falls prevention and monitoring.
