    Netgear WGR614 54Mbps Wireless Router

    1. Begin setup of your Netgear Wireless Router by first reading the instructions in theincluded manual, and following their guidelines for plugging in and initializing the

    access point. The first few steps in this guide should coincide with the informationfound in the manual, however we will follow up with important information on how tosecure your wireless access point.

    2. fter powering up the router, use an ethernet cable to connect your computer to oneof the ports on it mar!ed 1 through ". Ne#t open a web browser window on theconnected computer and typehttp://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and pressenter. This will ta!e you to the Netgear $mart Wizard welcome page, clic! Oto beginthe configuration. The router will attempt to detect the type of connection you haveand the ne#t message you receive should be !"#a$i% &' (!)*'+ !ete%te,,clic! Ne-tonce you see this.

    3. Ne#t you will enable the wireless capability of your router. %n the dropdown bo# forthe regio# here "ou are lo%ate,select #ite, Statesfrom the list. &n thisscreen you should also change the Wireless Netor0 Na$e (SS&!+from its default

    value to something uni'ue so that your Base $tation will not be confused withanother. (lic! Ne-t.

    4. )ou should now see a message confirming that your connection is wor!ing andwireless is enabled. *owever, your are not secured yet. Read the notes andclic! !o#e. Then direct your browser tohttp://.routerlogi#.#et to continue theconfiguration. window will pop up prompting you for your login and password,enter a,$i#for the username and passor,for the password, then clic! O.

Then clic!Ge#erate. /inally clic! ppl". )ou may also selectW0 encryption, however not all networ! cards support this, so chec! yourdocumentation first.

    6. Ne#t loo! for the ,3a#%e,section heading on the left side of the page and clic! onthis Wireless Setti#gssection. !isablethe SS&! broa,%astoption by unchec!ingthe second bo# in this section and then clic! on theSetup %%ess istbutton.

    7. &n this page +seen below chec! the bo# to ur# %%ess *o#trol O#and clic! onthe ppl"button to save this setting.

    8. Now clic! on the ,,button, this will display a Wireless *ar, #tr"heading. This iswhere you will choose a name and enter a ( ddress, also !nown as 0hysicalddress, for each computer that you will be using to connect to your wireless networ!.%f you don2t !now how to get this information follow the steps here. &nce you havefinished, clic! the ppl"button.

    Creating an Access Control List will prevent unauthorized computers from using yourconnection.

    3. /inally clic! on the Set 'assor,lin! on the left of the page underthe Mai#te#a#%eheading. (hange the default password for accessing your wirelessrouter setup pages by first typing the old one, passor,, into the appropriate fieldand then entering a new one into the Ne 'assor,field and confirming it. This

    should be a different password than the one you setup for W40 encryption, but shouldalso be atleast - to characters in length. (lic! the ppl"button.
