the OlympicsNESTON High School studentSophie Roscoe has won the top

award in the North West Regional

2012 Olympic Games mascot

design competition.

The talented Year 10 art and

design student receied her

award at the Northwest 2012

Conference.

Sophies mascot design was

shortlisted from oer 2,500entries. Her winning North West

design was presented to a judging

panel including Olympic gold

medal Triple Jumper Jonathan

Edwards, Paralympic basetball

player Ade Adepitan and the

London 2012 Head of Education

Nic Fuller.

The design theme depicts the

place and community in which thedesigner lies and Sophie chose

to represent the musical history in

her area with Wenloc supporting

a drum logo, holding drum stics

and decorated with musical notes.

The Mascot will now become a familiar gure in the run up and during the Olympics

and Paralympics in the North West featuring on ags, posters, and developed into an

ofcial 2012 pin badge.

top of the world after losing all her excess

of the Dee Scout Centre on my rst night,

but the consultant Jayne immediately put

me at ease. She then explained all about

the Slimming World Food Optimising Plan,

which was really generous and meant that

I neer had to go hungry, because of all

the free food that I could eat as much as Iwanted to. I loe my food,and eat

out regularly, so that was great for

me.

Helen then began going for short

wals and going to the gym to

help with the weight loss. By

Christmas she had lost almost 11/2 stones and

as time went on

and she was

losing more and

more weight,

she started todo longer wals

and eentually

she increased

her tness level

so much that

she was able to

go with her husband on mountain wals.

In June 2010 Helen reached her target

weight after losing a fantastic 2 1/2 stones!

Moing onwards and upwards, next Helendid the Race for Life with her daughter Mel

who had lost a stone by also joining the

group.

The next goal Helen set herself was

to wal up Mount Snowdon, followed

by Scafell Pye and then, Ben Neis,

achieing the National Three Peas with

her husband, something she would neer

had dreamed of doing before losing the

weight. She did it on hot summers daysand in record time too!

At the July meeting, we were entertained by a belly dancer called Fatima who

demonstrated the craft and encouraged some audience participation which led to

some hilarity. The group isited Cale Abbey and Woodend Cottage in July and

Bluebell Nurseries in August.

In September there is a isit to Hoghton Towers and Bygone Times. In Noember

there is a isit planned to the Floral Pailion for a viennese Strauss Christmas Gala.

Video company pushes the boat outTHIS summer Neston-based Chat Noir

Productions Ltd was commissioned

to produce a ideo promoting the new

Hoylae Lifeboat Museum. Based in theold victorian lifeboat station on Hoylae

promenade, the museum celebrates

the braery of the men who crewed

the boats from the station for oer 100

years.

Chat Noir had already lmed the return

of the 110 year old Champman lifeboat

to the museum bac in May. The last suriing Lierpool class lifeboat of its type,

the Chapman had been painstaingly restored by trainees at the Laird Foundation in

Birenhead.Filming too place not only at the

archie photographs to tell the history

of lifeboats in Hoylae bay and the

museums aspirations for the future.

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September

The 2011 Neston Music Festial taes place with concerts on both days. This annual

festial started in 2000 with a small-scale concert and has become progressiely more

ambitious, raising almost 10,000 for Claire House Childrens Hospice and the Wirral

Churches Ar Project. In a similar format to last year there will be an orchestral concert

on the Saturday eening and a concert by the Pemberton Old Wigan Band on theSunday. Proceeds will go to the charities mentioned aboe.

This years orchestral programme will include Berlioz Oerture Les Francs-Juges,

Doras Slaonic Dance No.6, Saint Saens First Cello Concerto and Brahms Second

Symphony. The concert will be conducted by Eric Jennings; the cello soloist will be

Frdric Steinbrchel.

The concert by the Pemberton Old Wigan Band will include a ariety of music from this

Championship bands wide repertoire.

Tickets for the orchestral and band concerts will cost 8. The price for senior citizens,

children and students will be 6. Ticets will be aailable from Allisters Opticians in

Neston, Linghams Booshop in Heswall and on the door
