About Nestlé

Good Food, Good Life is the promise we commit to everyday, everywhere.

You probably think you already know what Nestlé does. We're the people who liven up your break with Nescafé and a Kit Kat.

But did you know that we're also the people who bring you Buxton Mineral Water, Felix Pet Food, Rowntree's Fruit Pastilles and Quality Street. Or that our research is pushing back the boundaries of health and nutrition around the world.

That's the thing about Nestlé: there's always something new to learn. It might be the story of our founder, Henri Nestlé, whose research into child nutrition laid the foundation for more than 150 years of commitment to good food and healthy living. Or it might be the story of how, despite being the world's leading nutrition, health and wellness company, your career with us will always have a local emphasis as well as global reach.

A message from our Chairman and our CEO

“For a company to be successful over the long term and create value for shareholders, it must also create value for society. At Nestlé, this begins with the creation of superior long-term value for shareholders by offering products and services that help people improve their nutrition, health and wellness.

To build a business capable of both delivering superior shareholder value and helping people improve their nutrition, health and wellness, Creating Shared Value is the approach we take to the business as a whole. In addition to nutrition, we focus on water, because water scarcity is a very serious issue in many parts of the world and water is quite simply the linchpin of food security. And we focus on rural development, because the overall well-being of farmers, rural communities, small entrepreneurs and suppliers is intrinsic to the long-term success of our business.”

Nestlé in the UK and Ireland

When it comes to Nestlé UK & Ireland, the question isn't so much 'What do we do?' It's more a case of 'What don't we do?'

Our confectionery range is one of the largest and best-loved in the UK. It covers every treat you'd care to mention from Kit Kat to Aero taking in along the way such unforgettable names as Quality Street, Yorkie, Black Magic, Blue Riband, Caramac, Dairy Box, Drifter, Lion Bar, Munchies, Milky Bar, Nestlé Crunch, Polo, Rolo, Rowntree's Fruit Gums, Rowntree's Fruit Pastilles, Smarties, Toffee Crisp, Tooty Frooties and Walnut Whip.

If you thought the challenge of trying to say all that in one breath was pretty steep, it's nothing compared to the daily challenge of producing and distributing all these much-loved brands.

And yet, confectionery is just the tip of the iceberg as far as Nestlé UK & Ireland is concerned. Our other divisions are also incredibly busy.

This is, after all, where we produce everything from Nescafé Instant Coffee to Nescafé Cappuccino, Nesquik, Maggi, and the ever-popular Herta range of chilled meats. So what's the secret of our success?

Well, in essence, it boils down to bridging the gap between great taste and real care for our customers, our environment and our people.

Businesses and Brands

A career with Nestlé means the chance to explore new worlds. You could join our experts in Nestlé Professional, supplying products to some of the best kitchens in the UK. You could get things off to a bright start with Cereal Partners UK, immerse yourself in Nestlé Waters, sample great tasting food and drink at Nestlé UK & Ireland, express your customer service skills at Nespresso UK, look inside our products with Nestlé Nutrition, or celebrate your love for our furry friends at Purina PetCare (UK & Ireland).

Along the way, you'll work with many of the UK and Ireland's most cherished brands. For Cereal Partners UK, this will include Shredded Wheat, Shreddies and Cheerios. For Nestlé UK, the list is enormous, including everything from Nescafé Dolce Gusto to Kit Kat and Yorkie. At Nestlé Waters, you'll have the chance to work with local heroes like Buxton and continental favourites such as Perrier and San Pellegrino. Finally, at Purina PetCare (UK & Ireland), you'll work with leading pet food names such as Winalot, Go-Cat, Bakers and Felix.

Nestlé Supply Chain

From the milk farms of Cumbria or the coffee plantations of Brazil, to the shelves of Tesco or

webpages of Ocado - experience an end to end Supply Chain career at Nestlé.

When we describe our Supply Chain as the heart of our entire business, we mean it. Indeed, it's no exaggeration to say that the success of Nestlé relies on its ability to effectively manage a hugely complex operation.

So what makes our Supply Chain so special?

Well, for a start, we're the leading Nutrition, Health and Wellness company in the world and possess one of the most sophisticated supply chains in the world - putting the customer at the heart of everything we do. As a result, every success (and, by definition, every failure) we experience is multiplied to the nth degree. And for the right type of person, that shouldbe an exhilarating prospect.

Each element of the Supply Chain relies heavily on strong relationships with other areas, and that creates a community of like-minded people; a real team ethos where everyone goes out of their way to help each other deliver across the end-to-end, from farm to fork, whether you’re buying coffee beans, planning factories, engaging with customers or scheduling transport. It's the passion, dedication and energy from our people that drives our winning culture. You'll quickly come to appreciate this diverse environment, regardless of which role you find yourself in.

Procurement

Procurement represents the total business and plays a crucial role in the management of the spend of the whole company in the UKwhich includes everything from mobile phones, a Kit Kat wrapper, a digital agency creating our online advertising to a spare part for a factory. It's a high pressure area of the business, responsible for expenditure running into hundreds of millions of pounds.

Our challenge is to manage the strategic sourcing execution for locally managed categories to deliver the best value to Nestlé. We also manage all of the local relationships with our globally managed supplier base, so how we ensure we deliver the best service to our factories from our raw and packaging suppliers, to working with the above the market teams to deliver what the UK market requires in those categories.

We manage the relationship with all of our business units to explain and drive the procurement agenda to deliver the benefits toeach of those businesses by leveraging both the above the market spend and the local spend across all the categories to deliver value, sustainability and innovation.

For you, that will mean the opportunity to build yourself a procurement career that's second to none. Calling on your strong influencing skills, head for figures and determination to succeed, you will help us in one of two ways.

You can join our UK Purchasing Operation, where you'll develop and enhance relationships between existing suppliers and internal customers as well as assessing the ability of our suppliers to appreciate and meet our requirements.

You'll have the satisfaction of knowing that the next time someone sits down to a Kit Kat Chunky, chances are they could be unwrapping and eating the fruit of your hard labours.

Planning

Planning is all about understanding the huge range of factors that influence product demand before devising the plans that will meet thatdemand.

So, you'll be doing much more than creating agreed sales forecast or business plans; you'll find yourself deciding where and when products are made, and where they need to be sent.

Interacting with a wide range of contacts both inside and outside the business, this is a varied and hugely rewarding area of Supply Chain.

On an operational level you'll find yourself working alongside Demand and Supply Planning, Customer Service and Logistics. On a strategic level you will be working with Supply Chain and E-Business Development.

Literally from 'farm to fork', you will be part of the team accountable for making sure our products get to market and fulfill serious business objectives.

In return, we'll make sure you get all the support and guidance you need to succeed and grow. It's all part of the service.

“Nestlé is undoubtedly one of the most advanced and progressive thinking organisations when it comes to planning. We have enjoyed industry leading Customer Service levels for many years now and a huge contributor to that has been our continuous improvement in demand and supply planning.

Working within our planning function you will be a part of advanced business planning process, heavily integrated with our commercial and technical colleagues and utilising some the most advanced tools on the market. But we don’t stand still. We expect our people to continuously improve and encourage them to innovate - to develop tomorrow’s best practices.”

Garry Browne, Head of Supply Chain Capability

Customer Supply ChainPutting our customers, our retailers and our wholesalers first really is our top priority. That's why we've developed one of the most modern, effective and integrated Customer Facing Supply Chains in the world.

At our customer service centres in York and Gatwick, we manage the day to day needs of everyone who depends on us through a range of innovative customer response methods, including optical recognition technology, on line fulfilment and of course, great customer service.

We also lead the UK market and Nestlé world in advanced collaborative Supply Chain practices. We have Nestlé team members permanently based in the majority of our customers. They are empowered not only to place orders for Nestlé stock but to optimise the end to end value chains in which they work.

For you, all this expertise will mean one thing: the chance to build a Customer Facing Supply Chain career that is second to none. You'll find yourself doing everything from managing customer orders to getting products delivered to the right people at the right time. You'll also have responsibility for liaising across the business with Sales, Logistics and Planning and for developing and maintaining excellent partnerships both within and outside the business, maximising customer service and re-imaging the Supply Chain operations of the future.

As such, good organisational skills are a must, as is the ability to communicate clearly and build strong relationships at all levels. The capacity to use your initiative and support others as part of a team will also play a vital role in making us the clear supplier of choice for our customers.

“Delivering on behalf of our customers is a fantastic challenge where no two days are ever the same. Working in Customer Supply Chain for Nestlé gives you an unparalleled insight into the workings of some of the most famous and demanding grocery retailers in the world and even more importantly the chance to change and improve the ways in which we work together.”

Phil Unsted – Head of Customer Supply Chain, UK&I

Logistics

As the last link in the physical supply chain, we're the people right at the sharp end who make sure our customers get the products they want, when, where and how they want it. We are acutely aware that exceeding customer expectations in logistics gives our commercial teams a competitive advantage therefore day in, day out we focus intensely on our customers' specific needs. Of course, with a global concern like Nestlé, that's far easier said than done.

In fact, you'll find that Nestlé's logistics operation is one of the most fast-moving environments in the UK. You'll be finding creative solutions to operational delivery issues whilst at the same time shaping the future of Logistics so it can go on being recognised as one of the leading edge suppliers to its customers. You will need to anticipate the demands of our customers and respond to their needs and whilst achieving exceptionally high levels of service at a competitive cost.

Joining the team will see you develop a logistics career like no other. You'll deal with international deliveries and transport, make decisions that affect millions of pounds of goods and motivate both yourself and others to ensure that our products get there on time, every time.

In return, we'll make sure you get all the support and guidance you need to succeed and grow in a fast paced 24/7 operation. It's all part of the service.

Did you know? Careful loading patterns have enabled us to increase average lorry loads by one tonne, eliminating tens of thousands of unproductive miles.

Our vision in Logistics is ‘We deliver for Nestlé’ by being the best, most innovative and sustainable logistics operation in UK FMCG.

This has been reflected in our best in class status over many years.

Our mission is to constantly add value to the organisation by going beyond simply delivering great service at great costs. This includes exciting initiatives such as generating routes to market for new business opportunities like e-commerce or developing or embracing new innovative solutions and technologies for the transport and warehousing challenges of tomorrow.

To achieve all of this we need great people – people who want to be stretched and developed in a culture of constant challenge, continuous improvement and experimentation.

If that’s you, then come and see what life is like where the rubber really hits the road!

Dave Thompson, Head of Logistics

Working at Nestlé

What's it like to work at Nestlé? Well, quite simply, it's like nothing else.

For a start, you'll be joining a business with a truly global, yet distinctly European outlook, one which has been handed down from generation to generation since our founding in Switzerland in the nineteenth century.

Then there's the fact that we're truly committed to sustaining local communities, thanks to our principle of 'thinking globally, acting locally'. So, you'll find that working at a Nestlé office or factory will always mean enjoying great ties with the community around you, whether that's the town where you grew up or your adopted home in a far-flung location.

Then of course there's our commitment to internal mobility, inspired by a deep understanding of our own complexity as a business. This will mean you always enjoy the opportunity to move around, whether that's within your own department or business area, or on a secondment, or assignment from one country to another. Or it might equally be moving from, say, Purina PetCare to Nestlé Waters.

The final advantage is our belief in collaboration and mutual respect, and this has resulted in us creating a culture of brilliant people pulling together across diverse business areas to create the products and standards for which we're so famous.

All in all, Nestlé culture is a winning culture where everyone benefits. It's the perfect environment in which to carve out a niche according to your own skills and ambitions, and to keep on growing, both as a person and as an employee, as you work alongside great people to meet some of the most pressing challenges of today - and tomorrow

Page 14: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

Nestlé People

Nestlé people are honest, creative, brave, driven. Nestlé people work together in a culture of support and mutual benefit that encompasses every one of our customers, consumers and community members. Nestlé people want to change the world and make a difference, as well as gaining the critical commercial advantage.

So, yes, we're all different, and we value that diversity. But we also know the value of teamwork and unity which, along withthe talents of the individuals we employ, will make us all winners. But there's only one way to really understand what makes Nestlé people so different – and specifically our Supply Chain function, and that's to hear from them directly.

You can see what Alex, one of our Supply Chain Graduates, has to say about it here:

https://youtu.be/Ni5pHf1SxgE

Here’s what some of our key people have to say…

Page 15: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

DAVID HIX – SUPPLY CHAIN DIRECTOR

David, you've worked at Nestlé for 28 Years, why so long? The variety! I have worked across three different continents, six different product categories and four different functions and I am still learning and developing new skills every day.

How would you describe the Nestlé culture and values? Culture....Increasingly challenging but hugely supportive and collaborative. Values... Doing the right thing (always) for our consumers, employees, shareholders and society.

What is your current challenge? Engineering the supply chain to deliver increased market share.

What has your experience at Nestlé taught you about what we can expect in the next few years? The rate of change will continue to accelerate, accurately forecasting it is virtually impossible so plan to be flexible, agile and responsive to the market.

What do you think makes a perfect Nestlé employee? Courage, adaptability and a positive attitude.

When you think of Nestlé, what comes to your mind? Quality, in everything we do.

Page 16: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

MATT BEDDOE – HEAD OF PROCUREMENT UK&I

Matt, you head up Procurement here at Nestlé. What’s on the agenda for the business to achieve in the next couple of years? We are moving to deliver a business partner model for Nestlé where procurement gets really close to the business to understand what it needs, developing that category knowledge to deliver for the business whilst levering the scale of Nestlé,as the world’s biggest food company.

How is Procurement structured globally within the business? We manage procurement both globally and locally, where we can manage a category globally such as advertising, we will buy in this way, developing strong category expertise at a globallevel.

What do you think the key success factor is for Procurement at Nestlé? Understanding the business. Procurement as a function needs to deliver for the business, both in the long term and short term. By engaging in the strategy with the business to deliver the best value, most innovative and sustainable solutions from our suppliers. Having a customer service mind-set which will help deliver with suppliers the best availability to our factories and ultimately our consumers, or working with marketing the develop strong relationships with our suppliers that delivers both value and the service the business needs

Page 17: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

ELAINE WICKENDEN – TESCO INTERNATIONAL SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER

As a Graduate coming into Nestlé, how would you describe the experience? The graduate programme gives you a great insight into the roles which are available across Supply Chain. The scheme gives you real responsibility from the start, and with three rotations of 6 month placements in enables you to see the breadth that Nestlé can offer. Placements can vary from planning production at the factory to working closely with our customers to ensure these products reach the shelves. This variation of role means you’re constantly developing your skills and talents both on the job, and with the support from the Academy in the graduate training. Overall, it’s a brilliant experience which sets you up for a great start of your SupplyChain career.

What would you say to people wanting to experience a career in Supply Chain at Nestlé? Supply Chain isn’t necessarily something you would have studied at school or university. So think about the skills and interests which you have that make you suited for a career in supply chain. Supply Chain really does cover the end to end of products, and because of this you get to work with a huge range of people and functions, including manufacturing, sales, marketing and finance. One important element of the graduate scheme is being mobile, as this mobility allows you to experience the huge variety of different rolesacross Nestlé.

Page 18: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

GARY BOSWORTH - HEAD OF SUPPLY CHAIN, CEREAL PARTNERS UK

How did you end up at Nestlé and what have you been through with them so far? I joined Nestlé on a business apprenticeship program 15 years ago and have never looked back. I have been lucky enough to have received some excellent opportunities covering the end to end of supply chain (Customer Facing, Planning, Factory Logistics) as well as commercial (Sales & GeneralManagement). During this time I have worked in 6 locations (through choice) spanning multiple Nestlé businesses.

What successes have you had so far? I am pleased to say that I have experienced a few successes in my time at Nestlé stretching both personal & business. These vary in scale and range from developing myself, supported by the company, from an apprentice toa function head, successfully integrating a new business acquisition involving 650+ people or simply (easier said than done) being part of a team that ensures our products are on shelf when our consumers desire them.

So what does “World Class” mean to you and your team? World Class to me means simply means being the best at everything we do.

What would you say to anyone looking to join the Supply Chain team at Nestlé? If you are someone that wants to learn & develop within an organisation, feel you can add value in what is a diverse, exciting & challenging environment than simply come and join us!

What are you looking for in a person when recruiting for your team? Someone who is passionate about the opportunity they have applied for. Has the capability and will to succeed, and who is also willing to share a little about themselves to help me understand the role they will play within the team & business. This ultimately helps me to understand the value they can bring.

Page 19: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

PHIL UNSTED – HEAD OF CUSTOMER SUPPLY CHAIN

As Head of Customer Supply Chain, what are you actually responsible for? I am responsible for everything that happens with our customers apart from selling to them.

What’s the best thing about your job? Every day is different – each customer bring its own challenges and opportunities. You really need to be able to think on your feet!

What made you get into Supply Chain having studied Ancient History and Archaeology at University? I’ve always been fascinated with where our food comes from. The chance to work with some of the famous and demanding food retailers in the world is truly inspiring.

When recruiting in your team, what do you look for other than relevant experience? I look for people who can show their ability to influence and build relationships with people at all levels. People who show a real desire and passion for customers.

Page 20: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

ROBIN SUNDARAM – MILK BUYER & RESPONSIBLE SOURCING MANAGER

Robin, can you tell us a bit about your role at Nestlé? I am responsible for working in collaboration with all our dairy farmers to ensure we receive the best quality milk for use in our Confectionery and Beverage products. We have a long-term partnership with our farmers which is mutually beneficial. Our farmers are paid a good price for their milk. In addition they learn all about the Nestlé supply chain and like the fact that they know their milk goes in to iconic brands such as Kit Kat and Nescafe. In return, Nestlé gets good quality milk that is fully traceable and we can be confident of long-term supply. In addition I co-ordinate our responsible sourcing programme for the UK and the wider sustainability approach for our supply chain function.

How has Nestlé changed during the time you have been here? I would say that the company has become less ‘siloed’ and more collaborative, both internally and externally (eg. working with suppliers, customers, NGO’s and governments). Our Continuous Excellence approach (called NCE) has enabled more internal alignment (although there is still a way to go) and empowered more people within the organisation. On the flip-side, Nestlé has gone the way of most organisations in that it is less ‘maternal’ than when I started. Having said that, we are seeing a positive move towards flexible working such as working from home, dress-down policies and more holidays.

What have been your personal milestones on this journey? There have been quite a few! I was the first ever ‘implant’ working at a customer. Back in 1996 I used to spend 1 day a week at Sainsbury’s. Since then we have grown this areas significantly and along the same lines I persuaded Waitrose to take their first ever implant too! I am proud of the fact that I was asked by both Sainsbury’s and Tesco to present at their supplier conferences. More recently we have turned our relationship with our farmers from a transactional ‘price-led’ relationship to a long-term partnership where there is mutual trust and respect, resulting in this year’s Nestlé in Society Award at the Nestlé Leadership Conference.

What has been the most exciting project you have been able to work on? Probably ‘Project Freeze’! When I worked in Nestlé Professional we created a Nesquik milkshake vending machine that looked like the Nesquik bunny. The trial was so successful that we were asked to go live across the UK within 3 months. So in that time I had to create the whole supply chain process for the machines. This meant that in a matter of weeks I had to collaborate with Sales, marketing, finance and logistics to firstly create, and then implement the whole process from the sale of the machine through to order placement/receipt and on to delivery and finally invoice and payment!

What would you say to a candidate actively on the market who has the choice between Nestlé and any other FMCG company? I would ask them to take a good look at what Nestlé is achieving in terms of Sustainability and Responsible Sourcing.

Page 21: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

DOM HAWKINS - TESCO CUSTOMER SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER UK&I

Dom, you’ve had a great career with Nestlé, joining as a Supply Chain Graduate. What has kept you here? There’s a whole host of reasons I’m still here. I think Nestlé focusses on a good work life balance and shows real care for its employees. I’ve had the opportunity to do a large variety of challenging and stretching roles, with real responsibility from a very early part of my career. It’s never been boring and that’s kept me here!

What’s been the most exciting project you’ve worked on at Nestlé? I’d have to say working at our Tutbury Coffee Factory during the Coffee Excellence project from 2013 – 2015. This was a £215m investment in a new world class coffee factory, the biggest investment in the entire Nestlé world at the time and I had to manage the supply chain elements of it. This involved moving six separate assets that covered hundreds of millions of pounds of sales in the UK each year, so the pressure was really on to succeed and allow our commercial team the flexibility in supply to win with our customers and consumers whilst we went through such a big operations change. It was a really challenging but enjoyable time, and the sort of opportunity that only happens once during a career. It’s nice to look back and see a real legacy from that time.

Would you recommend working for Nestlé? Absolutely, the reason I’m still here 11 years later says it all. If you want a really broad range of opportunities and stretching and challenging roles, it’s a great place to come and work.

Page 22: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

RACHEL BOWEN – UK&I CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER

Hi Rachel – can you tell us a bit about your role in Supply Chain? I’m the Customer Service Manager for Nestle UK & Ireland. Based in York my team is responsible for capturing and processing all customer orders. Those customers are from every sector – Ecommerce, discounters, major supermarkets, wholesalers and convenience stores. My role is to ensure that as a team, we use the most effective, efficient processes and systems to get the customer’s order right first time, working with the Demand, Supply and Logistics teams.

How long have you worked for Nestle and how have you progressed? I have worked for Nestle for 18 years. I joined in a junior management role in Customer Service. Since then I have moved into roles that have broadened, deepened and stretched my knowledge across supply chain. These have varied from project management, customer collaborative/development, transport and logistic contract management roles.

Where were you working previously? I left University and joined a Japanese courier firm that was establishing a logistics team. It gave me an insight into how a small company operates but also how customer relationships and an effective end to end process is vital in supply chain.

What was the biggest challenge for you when you joined Nestle? Coming to terms with the scale that Nestle operates in the UK and globally as an FMCG, but also the huge opportunity that it was going to give me.

What do you love most about your job? The variety of each day and the people. No matter what the process is you work to , you cannot predict the environment you will be working in every day and the challenge of tackling that and succeeding is satisfying. The team and the people around you are key to this. Being responsible for a team that is constantly learning, managing change and wanting to succeed is a privilege.

What do you look for when recruiting in your team? ‘A spark’. Enthusiasm, willingness to succeed, and an ambition to continuously want to improve supply chain.

Page 23: Nestlé Candidate Pack - Supply Chain

Reward

Within Nestlé businesses in the UK and Ireland, we don't talk about Benefits - we talk about Reward. And when we talk about Reward, we mean all the things you'll get in return for your contribution to our success. This could include unbeatable career development opportunities or the facilities at the site where you work.

But one thing's for sure, wherever you work in Nestlé, you'll enjoy a selection of core benefits including a competitive salary, contributory pension scheme and a range of flexible benefits to choose from.

Furthermore, you'll find that your Reward is linked to your performance and the performance of the business. For most employees this includes a base salary which is linked to performance and, if you're eligible for an annual bonus, this too will be performance-linked.

Flexibility is also an important part of our benefits package. That's why, wherever possible, we will provide you with the flexibility to select the options which suit your circumstances, such as childcare vouchers. Not only do you get the usual 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays, you also get an extra 12 days to take as flexible leave! So, an extra day off a month? Yes, it really is that good. We also operate in casual dress, have dogs in our Gatwick offices (there’s a “3 barks and you’re out” rule!) and allow you to work the hours to suit your lifestyle.
