Fabric SelectionThis block was deigned to be scrappy.
Suggestions:
Choose the same colourway for each churn dash block.
Try a mixture of small, medium and large prints. Throw in some stripes and dots for fun.
Make the fabrics for the churn dash blocks a darker value than the background for contrast.
One background can be used for the entire block or a different background can be used to surround each churn dash block.
As an alternative, try using contrasting solids for the churn dash blocks and backgrounds.
TechniquesRead all instructions before making the block. seam used for all piecing.
Half Square Triangles (HST)This is a quick method to make the corner blocks of each churn dash block. The measurements for each square will be listed in the cutting requirements.
Step 1 Place 2 - squares, right sides together.
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner
Sew on each side of the line.
Step 2 Cut on line to yield 2 HSTs.
Press seam to one side (darker fabric) or open.
Trim to correct size.
To trim the blocks, make sure the 45 degree marking on the ruler is on the diagonal line of the block. Trim the top and side of the block. Rotate and trim the remaining sides.
