Chapter Meeting June 28,2014

Laying the Foundation of the New Chapter

Chapter Forum Minutes • Akron/Canton, Youngstown, and Cleveland • Questions & Comments fielded regarding chapter meeting expectations • One big chapter event per year? Host at CCF Main? • Questions & Comments fielded regarding chapter meeting locations • Two business meetings required annually to suffice chapter bi-laws • Need to discuss education and its place in future chapter meetings • Main event to include education • Survey/questionnaire to be distributed (by Spectrum) to CS personnel • Website to be set-up for the chapter • Two business meetings enough annually? • IAHCSMM certified CS personnel to be included in electronic

communications • Find out who is interested in being in NOCSA chapter • October meeting to provide 6 CEUs • Managers charged with communicating with their employees to gauge

interest in chapter participation • When meetings are held, the chapter needs to make sure it's providing

education to help boost attendance

• Attendance concerns expressed. Must make sure we :

1. Question posed regarding participation. "What do you think is the reason for low attendance/lack of participation?"

2. Question posed regarding education. "How do you and your employees obtain education/CEUs?"

3. Programs will offer credentialing for both CBSPD and IAHCSMM 4. It can be difficult to drive certification compliance in hospitals because systems

vary in their certification expectations and requirements • Certification costs are concerns of CS Technicians • What are other chapters doing to generate interest?

1. Massachusetts, Long Island, and California chapters are extremely active 2. Golf tournaments, charity work, etc. - good ways to increase chapter exposure,

awareness, and participation 3. Managers need to keep selling chapter involvement 4. Many CS staff members are unaware of the NOCSA chapter 5. Not all CS employees can attend national events, so the NOCSA's goal is to offer

similar opportunities in a local, smaller fashion 6. CS employees don’t view their profession as a career, so they tend not to be

involved in chapters and related activities 7. CCF Main tries to attract and hire individuals that want to follow the "CS Career

Path" and make a career out of the profession 8. Communications should be sent to local universities, high schools, etc. to raise CS

awareness and participation

• More frequent 1/2 day meetings with fewer CEUs might be a better alternative to fewer full-day meetings

• Spectrum can help facilitate interest in chapter participation by including chapter information in its educational offerings

• Motivating people to attend and participate in chapter functions is the challenge • A survey needs to be sent out to gather information from potential chapter

members • A meeting to review survey results will be held. Location and time TBD. • What's the incentive to participate in chapter events when education is typically

offered at hospitals from vendors? • Teamwork and customer service would be good topics for chapter events • An idea: Champions in each facility to attend chapter events and help drive

interest in chapter participation • Hands-on training desired for future chapter education • Austin Bio Innovation of America suggested as a good sight for future chapter

meetings. Great hands-on learning opportunities. • What are our plans for the October 11 meeting? : 1. Survey Monkey to be utilized to gather feedback from prospective chapter

members 2. Chapter membership applications distributed. 3. Dues? Richard Schule was asked if dues can be proportioned to the local chapter.

Might be a possibility. Chapters are on their own. 4. The plan is to forgoes dues right now, but subject to future change
