This October the Dublin Guitar Quartet will release a recording of Philip Glass’ string quartets on the composers own record label, Orange Mountain Music. This is a culmination of many years work in developing and refining arrangements of Glass’ string quartets. BREATHLESSDir. Jean Luc goddard | France | 1960 | 87 min | Cert Club

Second in our classic cinema season is Breathless, a mainstay of the ‘French New Wave’ from 1960. It tells the offbeat love story between Michel Poiccard, a Humphrey Bogart wannabe and Patricia Franchini, an American who sells newspapers on the boulevards of Paris. Breathless was ground-breaking for its time, substituting dramatically staged scenes for documentary style reality, and presenting characters who were flawed and unsure of themselves. What Breathless lacks in polish it makes up in Gallic charm, and for a film shot in three weeks on a tiny budget, it’s legacy went on to influence some of the top directors of our time, including Quentin Tarantino and Francis Ford Coppola.
