While we made the “rounds”, it looked like a few folks might have had a light malfunction due to all the rain. As I say every year, make sure your lights are ON! Otherwise, the best we can do is the Marlon “I coulda’ been a contanda” Brando award. Around the Association, many people wave to me as they drive or walk by, and many also take the time to stop and talk. One topic I frequently hear about from residents is security. We are definitely a sought after community, and attractive for burglars. We held a well attended HOA meeting with the San Ramon Police last year, and we encourage residents to form local neighborhood watch groups (about 10 residents per group). If interested in forming a neighborhood watch, please contact our board director Mike Continillo. Help us eliminate the need to send statements in envelopes with postage. " • We can e-mail everyone who wants to join in or you can just schedule the $240

payment for January 1 and July 1.   • Even those who do not have a computer can join in.  Just let us know that you will

send a $240 check or schedule a payment every January 1 and July 1. • The annual savings could be as much as $1,000 if everyone participates.  • It is very “green". "We will not change your payment system without an email or a note in writing from you authorizing it.   "If you have any questions contact: "Terry Cunningham [email protected]

PRESIDENT continued from page 1 "Another security idea occurred to me from my own efforts. I have a video camera system with four cameras, and after placing a couple of cameras at my house, I quickly realized the best place for a security camera for my house was actually on my neighbor’s house! While a camera or two is good at your house (front door, etc.), the best place for a camera to look at your own house is actually on your neighbor’s house across the street! And vice versa! If residents would get together with their neighbor across the street, and each of you get a small security camera system, you can help each other and yourselves! I’ll have more on this idea in the next newsletter. "Have a great Winter/Spring, and if you’d like to contact me, please send me an e-mail. " """President Bollinger Hills HOA [email protected]

Still Time to GO PAPERLESS

This month's Bollinger Hills Spotlight home award goes to Rich and Lisa Boden. They have meticulously maintained and updated their home at 85 Tumbleweed Ct., since moving here in 97'. They did some initial landscape work in the first few years they lived here, which included removing some trees that were overpowering the house. Even without any major landscape improvements in recent years their home still looks great. The key to that has been their constant maintenance and care. Other improvements they have made over the years include a new roof, windows, exterior paint and a new garage door. Rich's favorite part is the Malibu lighting they installed, which gives their yard that really nice accent in the evening. Rich and Lisa take pride in their home, and it shows. We would like to acknowledge them for their hard work, and say "Thank You!" for doing such a great job maintaining their home.

If you would like to nominate a home to be recognized as our next "Spotlight Home" please email me at [email protected].

The above is a list of investments. Cash balances are invested in a money market accounts and CD’s at present. We can invest them in treasury bills and notes, money market funds and certificates of deposit as long as we do not incur capital risk. We maintain $236k in reserves for capital improvements and major repairs. We have another $260k in operating and planned spending funds. "Dues are due on the first day of each January and July. They are delinquent on the 30th of each of those months as stated in the COLLECTION POLICY. It is important that each homeowner pay his/her dues promptly to enable our Association to continue providing service at low cost and to avoid being charged fees for untimely payments. "We have some repair and improvement projects planned for the next one to five years. If you would like to know about these or be involved, please notify us at [email protected].

By Terry Cunningham BHHOA Treasurer

Let’s Go Paperless We Can Do Better & I Hate Stuffing Envelopes! "Currently we have only 30 homeowners who wish to go paperless and not receive a statement for each billing cycle. They receive an email with a statement attached to let them know the dues and when they are due. "Just give us authorization in writing (an email) and we will no longer send statements. You only need to make sure you send us $240 each January 1 and July 1. Help us keep your dues low and be green at the same time. "You can send an email to [email protected] or send us a note by US Mail. You can drop that note in my mailbox at 309 Mare Lane. Also, let us know what else we can do to make paying your dues easier.

We may be entering our fourth year of a drought and EBMUD is asking customers to further reduce water use from 10% to 15%. As part of California’s Emergency Water Conservation Restrictions, EBMUD customers are required to: Limit watering of outdoor landscapes to two times per week maximum and prevent

excess runoff. Use only hoses with shutoff nozzles to wash vehicles. Use a broom or air blower, not water, to clean hard surfaces such as driveways and

sidewalks, except as needed for health and safety purposes. Turn off any fountain or decorative water feature unless the water is recirculated. Here are additional recommendations from EBMUD to cut your water use to 15%: Short days + cool nights = less thirsty plants. With cool weather, short days and rain, it’s

time to turn irrigation off. If conditions are dry, water your trees and shrubs by hand once every two weeks or as needed. Remember: state restrictions that mandate cutting back on outdoor watering remain in effect.

Spot water with recycled water. If you need to spot water plants, consider picking up free drought emergency recycled water from one of a partner agencies: Central Contra Costa Sanitary District and Dublin San Ramon Services District.

Convert your thirsty lawn to a sustainable landscape and upgrade your irrigation equipment to efficient drip systems and self-adjusting controllers. Rebates are available for single- and multi-family residences and commercial customers.

Find and fix leaks. Toilet and irrigation systems contain some of the biggest and sneakiest leaks.

Slow your flow. Use our WaterSmart Home Survey Kit to evaluate your home’s water use and find leaks and inefficient fixtures.

Upgrade appliances and plumbing fixtures  to more water efficient models. EBMUD  currently offers water conservation rebates to customers for toilets and washing machines.

Add up your water use. This home water use calculator can help you determine where and how to cut back your water use. Other ways to reduce water inside the home:

• Take shorter showers and save the “warm up” water in a bucket to use on your outdoor plants.

• Save vegetable rinse water in a bucket to use on your outdoor plants. • Turn faucet off when shaving or brushing teeth. • Dishwasher and clothes washer use with full loads only. • Reduce use of kitchen garbage disposals through composting and curbside green

waste collection. • Upgrade to more water-efficient plumbing fixtures and appliances. • Repair leaks indoors and out.

For more guidelines and rebate information, take a look at the EBMUD website. !

Help WantedAre you interested in helping the BHHOA? !

We are looking for residents that would be interested in serving on the CC&R patrol team. This position requires frequent patrols, log reports, follow-ups, and report to CC&R manager. This position is compensated. If you are interested, please contact Terry Cunningham at [email protected] !! !

For a variety of factors, the Board has decided to suspend lifeguard coverage at the pool. Over the years, the lifeguard benefit to the residents has changed. Years ago, many residents availed themselves of the opportunity to send their children between the ages of 8 and 13 to the pool during lifeguard hours by themselves. This has changed over the years to be utilized less and less. Other factors include the fact that lifeguards are only scheduled part of the full pool season, and availability of lifeguards has become more difficult in recent years. Our HOA was a rarity that we had some lifeguard coverage at our pool. While it is possible this decision could be re-visited, for now that is the Board decision. If you have any questions please contact Victor Petersen at [email protected]
