The kangaroo rat is a small rodent native to North America. The kangaroo rat can jump 7-8 feet and quickly change direction when it lands. Kangaroo rats normally eat seeds, vegetation and insects. Kangaroo rats have 6 toes with large hind feet and small front legs. Kangaroo rats can live in the desert by digging burrows to escape from the heat. Kangaroo rats are coloured cinnamon ranging to dark grey. Kangaroo rats live in burrow systems made in soft sand or soil.

Cacti: live in very dry conditions . Cacti can be found throughout the world and sometimes flower. Cacti can be short and bush like or tall and tree like.

Palms: are mostly trees but can be shrubs. Palms grow in hot climates and there are over 2000 kinds of palm. Many palms are being cut down because of human activity.

Soap tree Yucca: is found in Californian desert and Mexico. The yucca can grow 10-18 feet with palm tree like leaves. The yucca flowers a bright red plant when it blooms.

Meerkats are a member of the ferret family and mainly eat insects and small mammals. Meerkats live in burrow systems in deserts. Meerkats have 2 cm long curved claws on the end of each finger. When the meerkat senses danger it stands on its hind legs and scouts the area. Meerkats live in large groups of 20-30 members. Meerkats can be found throughout South Africa. Meerkats usually have 2-5 pups in each litter. Meerkats fur is normally a golden yellow so it can camouflage from predators. It can live in the desert by digging burrow systems to escape from the heat.

Adult female black widow spider have a orange hourglass pattern on the underside of their abdomen. Black Widow spiders can be found worldwide. The Black Widows bite can be 15 times stronger than a rattlesnake. Black Widows eat smaller insects who get trapped in their web. The spiders bite is almost never fatal and only bite in acts of self defence. As adults the females will sometimes eat the male. Black widows construct webs under plants to protect the webs from damage.
