i According to the new urban definition, the urban population comprises persons residing in urban territory but not necessarily in an urban place, which is defined as an incorpo· rated place of 2,500 or more, or an unincorporated place of 2,500 or more located outside an urbanized area. Under the old definition, incorporated places of 2,500 or more and places urban under special rule are classified as urban places. In Nebraska there were no places urban under special rule.

2 Parts of Otoe and Sarpy Cmmties acquired by Iowa and part of Iowa acquired by Burt County in 1943. a Includes 12,658 persons in urban territory outside of urban places. • Exelusiw~ of population of areas taken to form parts of Colorado and Dakota Territories in 1861, but inclusive of population of area taken to form part of Idaho Territory in 1863.
