• Founded in 1967 – “Ohio College Library Center”
• 54 Ohio colleges and universities
• 1977 – OCLC opened up membership to libraries outside Ohio
• Name change to “OCLC, Inc.”
• 1981 – name change to “OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc.”
Over 71,000 libraries in 112 countries

• 9 original member libraries plus Nebraska Library Commission
• Interlibrary Loan Subsystem, FirstSearch Group Subscription, Cataloging Express Service (CatExpress), and Cooperative Online Resource Catalog (CORC)
• Today – 141 members

•OCLC hired a consultant
•Regional networks with different surcharges and membership fees
•Consolidate customer support and training

• Training, Billing, Marketing
• No surcharges or membership fees allowed
• Flat national pricing model
• All telephone and e-mail support taken over by an OCLC Support Center
• Effective July 1, 2009

• Compensation in OCLC’s new Partner model is lower than NEBASE’s current surcharges and membership fees
• Less compensation => NEBASE can’t financially survive

•NEBASE interviewed several networks that will be remaining with OCLC as Partners
•Consulted with Advisory Council
•BCR already provides some services to Nebraska libraries

•All Nebraska OCLC member libraries transfer to BCR for OCLC billing, renewals, ordering and training (some exceptions apply!)
•NEBASE sending billing and contact info to BCR
•OCLC invoices will come from BCR

•BCR’s OCLC training - online or in-person at any location - at BCR member pricing
•New national training calendar hosted by OCLC - coming in July 2009

•NEBASE will send invoices for June 2009 activity – sent in July
•BCR will start sending invoices with July 2009 activity – sent in August
• July 1, 2009 - all technical support calls go to OCLC and all billing and ordering support calls go to BCR (exceptions!)

No, there will be no changes to your current services. The OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing service is not changing in any way.

• Is the OCLC CatExpress service going away?
No, there will be no changes to your current services. The OCLC CatExpress service is not changing in any way.

• NetLibrary Shared Collections – NLC will continue to work with Lyrasis (formerly SOLINET)

• NLC will continue to negotiate vendor discounts and purchasing of other electronic resources for Nebraska libraries individually or in groups
• NLC ILL on behalf of libraries continues with no changes
