Educational Requirements of an NDT Technician

He must have a wide knowledge and vast experience in certain fields of NDT, depending on the type of industry.

He must have several certifications that will ascertain his technical and applicable knowledge in NDT. He must also be familiar with certain Engineering standards that will be used in performing the job.

Job Description

1. To perform NDT as per job requirement as per request received from QC Inspectors.

2. To evaluate and interpret the NDT results with respect to applicable Codes, standards, specifications and approved company procedures.

3. To prepare NDT reports and certify the results.

4. To demonstrate each NDT techniques to QC Engineers and Authorized Inspectors prior to perform on the job.

5. To prepare reports for the demonstration of Techniques.

6. To maintain the NDT equipment and instruments in good condition.

7. To estimate the NDT consumables required for the type of work and to prepare request to purchase the consumables.

8. To perform periodic verification of the calibration as per Code requirements.

9. To coordinate with NDT subcontractor for other NDT requirements.

Skills

Essential: • High School/Technical School with 5 to 6 years works experience. • ASNT NDT Level - II in Radiography Testing, Penetrant testing, Magnetic particle testing and Ultrasonic testing method in the file of piping and pressure vessels

• Experience in the field of fabrication, construction in QA/QC & Inspection of pressure piping, storage tanks & structural steel works. • Should have experience in preparation of NDT report, to perform calibration of NDT instruments. • Practical working experience in penetrant testing, Magnetic particle testing and Ultrasonic testing method Review and interpretation of Radiography films. • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents • Talking to others to convey information effectively

PURPOSE

To carryout non-destructive testing and provide technical assistance to Inspection Engineer in all activities related with static equipment in on-stream and during shutdown as per Risk Based Inspection (RBI) schedule in a safe and effective manner to ensure continuous functioning of all rotating equipment in the plant.

BACKGROUND

NDT Technician reports to the Inspection Engineer.

He performs inspection activities in accordance with Inspection and HSE Policies and procedures. Co-ordinates activities with Area Asset holders, operations, Maintenance and central maintenance workshop plus third party contractors for inspection maintenance work. Has frequent contacts with specialized contractors, operators, Mechanical and Civil personnel, to ensure that quality of works meet the pre-established requirements.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

         To perform non-destructive testing like Ultrasonic, Dye penetrate, Magnetic particle, Radiography and interprets results, prepare NDT reports to assess the condition of equipment and piping for on-stream and shutdown inspection as well as during the commissioning of new facilities, ensuring adherence to GASCO procedures.

         To carry out highly specialized inspection through thermography, alloy analyzer, eddy current testing, B-scan survey etc. as per operating procedures.

         To assist Inspection Engineer/Inspector in corrosion coupon retrieval and monitoring activities to facilitate asset integrity.

         To assist Inspection Engineer during visual inspection of equipment in the process and utility units.

         To assist in inspection of incoming material to warehouse to ensure accuracy of technical specifications.

         To collect the samples of deposit/scale corrosion products during on-stream and off-stream shutdown to investigate the corrosion problem.

         To carry out quality control of painting/wrapping and coating works in the plant like paint DFT wet film thickness, surface profile, holiday checking etc. to ensure adherence to GASCO standards.

         To carry out temperature survey for heaters, furnaces, stacks and high/low temperature service piping and equipment and to perform positive material identification for material as per requirement.

         To carry out under lagging corrosion survey as per RBI Task Planning and monitoring cathodic protection for underground piping and storage tanks in the plant.

         To prepare and compile isometric drawing to carry out UT survey on piping circuits.

         To ensure proper maintenance and updating of NDT and other quality control records in

the respective equipment/piping folders to fulfill information requirements.

         To prepare periodical MIS, progress reports to keep top management informed about the progress of various initiatives and to facilitate decision making.

         To ensure compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies and procedures.

         HCT D./ATI/ Equivalent in Tech. or Related         4 Years Experience in the same field
