Regional Introduction to the NDCAC 475 Valley Road | Reno, NV | 89512

The goal of the Regional Introduction to the NDCAC training course is to provide students with an understanding of the services offered through the NDCAC, and improve investigator awareness to new communication services and technologies they may encounter in today’s investigations. Students will be introduced to packet data communication, how it impacts a criminal investigation, and how law enforcement can interpret and process legally authorized collected data.

1. NDCAC Overview – .5 hoursAn overview of the NDCAC; its’ mission, goals, and programs.

2. NDCAC Portal and Technical Resource Group (TRG) Overview – 1 hourNDCAC Portal: Provide students with an overview of the NDCAC Portal, its’ usage for open communications with the center, providing technology updates, training activities and a portal for interaction with various programs at the NDCAC.TRG Overview: Provide students with an overview of the Technical Resource Group (TRG), its’ function as a single point of contact for NDCAC services, providing operational support 24/7, 365 days a year. The TRG will develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of industry-developed and law enforcement solutions and best practices with all materials being available for use by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

3. Modern Internet Communication Services – Best Practices – 1.5 hoursProvide students with an understanding of new communication services and technologies and their impact on law enforcement. The session includes an overview of the challenges these services present as well as the capabilities available to law enforcement.

4. Communication Awareness & Investigation – 1.5 hourProvide intelligence analysts and investigators with a working understanding of the transition from traditional circuit switched communications to IP based communications, the consequential legal and technical challenges, and the basic investigative steps needed to identify and exploit most internet based communications.

5. Broadband Pen Register/Trap & Trace – .5 hoursProvide students with an introduction to Data Pen Register/Trap & Trace. This course will explore analysis of captured data. Topics covered will include: identifying the IP address of the sender/recipient, how to identify file size(s) of the messages, how to resolve the IP address to communication services.

6. RIP Tool Software Application Demonstration – .5 hoursA demonstration of the internet protocol (IP) analysis tool that assists law enforcement with locating targets of ELSUR and identifying devices being used in investigations.

7. Technology Sharing Tools and Demos – 1 hourThe Technology Sharing Tools and Demonstration presentation will familiarize the law enforcement agency with the available tools from the NDCAC Technology Sharing Program.
