We represent a consortium of 12 school districts in the Eastern Upper Peninsula including Detour Public Schools, Detour Arts and Technology Academy, Engadine Consolidated Schools, the EUPISD, JKL Bahweting Anishnabe School, Mackinac Island School, Moran Township School, Ojibwe Charter School, Sault Area Public Schools, St. Ignace Area Schools, Tahquamenon Schools, and the Whitefish Township Community School. The school districts in the EUP have elementary schools (Grades K-5), Middle Schools, High Schools, a Career Center (Grades 9-12), and Alternative High Schools. Some of our smaller districts have K-8 buildings and even some K-12 buildings. Our students score above the state and national averages on standardized tests. Our Districts meet or exceed all State Board Guidelines on curriculum, graduation requirements, class ratios, and scholastic eligibility. Advanced Placement courses are available to students in four different disciplines, with many additional opportunities to take course work at Lake Superior State University under the dual enrollment program. Our local schools are leaders in computer-aided instruction. All students in grades 7-12 have been issued netbooks for their use. In addition, we have over 1,000 laptops for student and staff use. All elementary students also have access to desktop computers either in their classroom and/or in a computer lab. Most buildings have complete computer labs in addition to classroom computer units. The Career Center uses computers in many of their career and technical programs including the business services cluster, which has three individualized computer labs for student access, and drafting and design with CAD-CAM software identical to that used in industry. Students interested in career-technical education can choose from 14 in-house programs or additional off-campus specializations available in business and industry throughout the community. In addition, several cooperative articulation agreements with Lake Superior State University and Bay Mills Community College are presently in effect. Our schools range from Class D up to a Class B high school participating in the Straits Area Conference. Presently there are 30 teams, grades 7-12, participating in the interscholastic athletic program. Baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, hockey, soccer, softball, track, volleyball, and wrestling are offered, as well as an array of other extra-curricular activities. We are primarily looking to hire classroom teachers for next Fall; however, we do need substitutes during the school year. In order to be a substitute teacher, all you need is 90 semester hours on your transcript and have one or more days available in your weekly schedule.
