2nd GEAR:MAKIALAMBantay Tanodbayan: A
Forum with the Nomineesfor Ombudsman
The Philippine Constitution deems public
office as a public trust, wherein public
officers and employees, must at all times, be
accountable to the people. With its Office,
the Ombudsman, also referred to in the
vernacular as tanodbayan, is primarily
tasked to ensure that such fundamentalprinciple is honored. It is thus critical that the
institution itself must be s ubjected to the same
standards of transparency and accountability,
if not more.
This first leg of the MAKIALAM Forum
Series aims to make everyone aware of the
importance of the role of the Ombudsman in
the Philippine society. Expected output will
be a list of demands for the next Ombudsman
which will all come from the audience. The
said list of demands will be given to the
Judicial Board Council and Malacanan.
