Students of Fourth standard of a reputed school in a suburban town of Odisha may never know the screeching sound of

chalks scratching on a blackboard. It is because the dusty board has been replaced by a giant, touch-sensitive “computer screen”.

All across the country, blackboards are being replaced by interactive, computer-driven whiteboards that allow students and teachers to share assignments, surf the web and edit video using their fingers as pens.

“It is a must-have technology,” said Phalguni Parekh, director at a privately run inst i tute. “My dream school would have 78” diagonal, in-wall units in every classroom. It seems ‘VAMAA’ has made that possible now with its super economical pricing.”

During a recent visit to the school, students in a fourth standard class used the board to demonstrate solutions to math problems. The children drew on the board with their fingertips and explained to the class how they came up with their answers.

As each child sketched their answers, the solutions were saved as separate files on the teacher’s computer. The nine-year-old students were eager to use the board and show the class what they had learned.

“It really helps with motivation,” said Pranava Misra, the class teacher. “As a platform for encouraging group work, it’s amazing.” He uses the board to display a wide range of learning materials on his computer, from web pages to video clips. It is also used as a lunch-time reward for students: The children watched Black Beauty on the same screen that was used earlier for geography.

“It helps kids build the big picture and learn the meaning of almost anything,” Misra said. “If a kid wants to research boats they can do a PowerPoint presentation, a Word document or they can do a movie or slide show to show to the whole class.”

Interactive whiteboards can be found in more than 50,000 Indian classrooms, adopted by various schools. The technology is also growing internationally, with a presence in 75 countries.

“We sell only the board. The content is easily available in the markets and on the net. Several book publishers have come out with interactive contents also.

Providing an entire solution by bundling the setup, content & operator makes the package very costly. Ultimately the cost has to be borne by the students. Also, the teacher has no opportunity to show her quality as they have to teach only what is asked them to by the content developer.

VAMAA Gives Life to Classrooms

teachers have the freedom to buy/develop their own content, thus g iv ing them their free hands at their chosen budget .

“ I presume, in next five years there shall be a Interactive White Board in every single classroom in India at our kind of pricing” said, Anil Agrawal, Director of Supreme Global Trading Pvt.Ltd., owners of the brand ‘VAMAA’.

“Kids have Game Boys, Xboxes and all these fun interactive things outside of the classroom,” said Parekh. “VAMAA Boards matches the experience that the kids are having out of the classroom.”

Blackboards date back to the 1800s, but interactive whiteboards let teachers work through computer-savvy lessons impossible to do with chalk. Instead of chalk, students and teachers use their fingers or inkless pens to write and draw onscreen, or as a substitute mouse cursor to control a connected computer.

“A student asked if a worm had a brain. So I was able to do a quick Google search that had a diagram of an earthworm,” said, Misra, who often uses the internet to teach his students.

VAMAA boards are extremely user fr iendly and hardly require any training to operate. Anyone with knowledge of computer basics can be a stalwart at using interactive whiteboards.

VAMAA, manufactures and markets personal computer peripherals that enable people to effectively work, play and communicate in the digital world. The company’s products combine essential core technologies, continuing innovation, award-winning industrial design and excellent price performance. VAMAA’s origins lie in the OEM sector, which remains an important part of its business. To meet the demands of its OEM customer base, which includes most of the world’s largest PC manufacturers, VAMAA offers high-volume manufacturing with focused quality control, worldwide distribution and logistics, and the ability to leverage its infrastructure under changing demand conditions. VAMAA continues to broaden its product offering and its presence in the retail sector.

This is fueled by a trend among consumers to enhance their basic PC systems with more fully featured personal peripherals that add functionality and cordless freedom to their desktops. They are also purchasing supplementary devices designed for new applications and specific purposes such as gaming, multimedia, or audio and visual communication over the Internet. Further, VAMAA’s retail business includes personal peripherals for platforms beyond the PC, such as gaming consoles, portable music players, mobile phones and home-entertainment systems.

All across the country, blackboards are being replaced by interactive, computer-driven whiteboards that allow students and teachers to share assignments, surf the web and edit video using their fingers as pens.
