Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Getting involved in the SRC is a great way to meet new people at your campus and around the province at intercollegiate events. Each year, students elect a Students’ Representative Council to plan and coordinate activities and to serve as the voice of the students on college-related issues.

Right Start to College Your first week at NBCC will be an exciting one with social, recreational, cultural, and educational activities designed to help you adjust to campus life and get to know the surrounding community. Orientation activities vary at each NBCC location and may include competitions and study skills seminars.

Sports and Student Clubs NBCC is home to a variety of intramural sports from hockey and basketball to curling and Ultimate Frisbee. If your sport isn’t organized, we’ll even help you set it up. You can book gym time to play badminton, volleyball, or choose to stay fit with our fitness facilities. Our Saint John location even has a climbing wall! In addition to sports, we have student clubs such as yoga, art, gaming, dance and drama.

Academic Support You may wish to access a variety of support activities that are offered at some locations. These support activities may include peer tutoring, academic guidance, study skills and time management workshops. You also have access to testing materials and remedial support.

Accommodations Most locations can provide you with a list of accommodations available within the community. This list can also be found on our website.

Bookstore At each campus bookstore, you can access a variety of course- related materials including books and supplies. Some locations also offer a wide range of clothing bearing the college logo, as well as various convenience items.

Counselling Each location provides students with professional counselling services, either on-site or within the community. Support services could include personal, educational, career or financial counselling, as well as assessment and information services. Colleges also provide electronic access to CHOICES, a computerized career exploration program. It’s our goal to ensure all our students have the support they need to succeed while attending NBCC.

Food Service Each location offers the convenience of food services, which vary from a full-service cafeteria to snack vending machines.

Health Services Most locations offer health services for their students, either directly or through a community agency or hospital.

Library Services The library/resource centre offers a collection of resource materials to assist you in your particular program. In-house collections are supplemented by access to other Canadian libraries through inter-library loan services. Other resources may be available, such as Internet access or audiovisual materials.

Community Based LearningNBCC offers programs in First Nations communities for Aboriginal people. Last year we held the Personal Support Worker: Acute Care at Elsipogtog First Nation and Practical Nurse at Saint Mary’s First Nation.

Fredericton Fredericton is New Brunswick’s capital and boasts a vibrant cultural life with National Historic Sites, fine galleries and museums, lively outdoor cafés, award-winning festivals and a great downtown core within walking distance of riverfront trails. The Saturday morning Boyce Farmers Market is a popular weekly destination for many people who live and visit the city. The annual Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in September is not to be missed. A population of nearly 85,000 lends the city to a big-city atmosphere with green space like a small town along the riverfront.

MiramichiSituated along the world-famous Miramichi River, the city of the same name offers students the opportunity to learn in northern New Brunswick’s largest community. With several recreational centres, a theatre, marinas and an abundance of gorgeous river-view scenery, shops, and restaurants, the city has plenty to offer students. Miramichi campus offers a diverse range of programs including: Animation and Graphics, Criminal Justice and Graphic Design.

MonctonAs one of New Brunswick’s fastest growing urban centers, Moncton offers an outstanding quality of life and a number of exciting city attractions. The area boasts the largest shopping centres and retail locations in the province, an exciting range of cultural and sporting events and two national parks within a 75-minute drive of the campus. An exciting expansion of the campus has taken place to better serve all the students. 1 The tuition fee for a given regular training program is based on a fixed annual fee ($2,800 for Canadian students and $5,600 for International students in 2012-2013) for a program with a standard duration (one year, 32 to 40 weeks, or 30 credits). Fees for programs with a duration other than 32 to 40 weeks standard are pro-rated to the standard weekly fee.

2 The cost of books and equipment is an estimate only, and will vary from one program to another.

3 Living expenses are estimates only, and include the cost of accommodations, meals and incidentals and local transportation. Estimated expenses for Canadian students are based on 10 months of living costs. Estimated expenses for International students budget for 12 months of living in New Brunswick.

4 All students in L.I.V.E. (Learning Integrated Virtually Everywhere) programs pay a $300 technology fee, which covers software and program costs. * Note: The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 for the paper-based test, and 80 for the Internet-based test. The minimum score for IELTS is 6.5 band; for CAEL is 60; and for MELAB is 85, with no score in any section less than 80. Test results must be from within the last two years.

When to Apply1. For programs beginning in September 2012, the College

Admissions Service begins processing applications on April 1, 2011 and the deadline is March 31, 2012.

Steps to Confirm Placement1. Use your Letter of Acceptance to apply for your Study Permit/

Visa from the Canadian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate in your country. You will be able to obtain information from visa officials on additional requirements that may be needed. You can also visit the Citizen Immigration Canada website at: www.cic.gc.ca for additional information.

2. Pay the Confirmation Fee of $1,300 within 60 days of being accepted to reserve your seat in the program. The fee may be paid online at www.nbcc.ca/international or by bank transfer.

3. Once you receive your Study Permit and Visa (if required), please contact NBCC by email to: confirm your arrival date, request help in finding housing (if required), or request airport pick-up (if required).

Working in Canada1. Full-time students have several work options while studying at

NBCC: • You may apply to work part-time on campus, although very

few opportunities are available. No work permit is required. • You may learn on-the-job training through co-operative

education – scheduling periods of academic training with paid practical work experience (a work term). There is no cost for the work permit required.

• You may work off-campus if you meet specific criteria. You may apply for a work permit that allows you to work part-time up to 20 hours per week while in school, and full-time during scheduled breaks.

• After graduation from a degree, diploma or certificate program, you may apply for the post-graduation work permit, which allows you to work in Canada for up to three years after graduation.
