Nyenrode New Business School seeks to educate students in a broad range of academic
disciplines and to promote responsible entrepreneurship, creativity, and momentous new
ideas.
Following a strategy based on academic experience, compulsory modules (classes) are
designed to stimulate the students capacity to think independently and conduct critical
analysis, explore the theories and concepts of the core areas of finance, human resource
management, marketing, and communications. Simultaneously, students perform as
beginning entrepreneurs, building up knowledge and practical experience in real life
business projects and student companies that they set up and run.
Instruction in basic academic research, supported by a culture of comparing and connecting
different theories, gives students the intellectual basis necessary to operate at the levelof academic analysis required to solve complex, multifaceted business problems.
Knowledge-based, responsible entrepreneurship coupled with innovative interdisciplinary
business models and the latest communication technology drive the development of our
programme.
Dr Hertzs message is clear: it is no longer enough to simply employ people, make a profit
and pay taxes. To achieve a just and sustainable society, businesses in the 21st century
need to act responsibly, be accountable, and benefit society as a whole. If we are to takecare of the triple interests of People, Planet and Profit, the classic business model has to
be redefined.
Responsible entrepreneurship requires imagination and strong civic virtue. At Nyenrode
New Business School we stimulate creativity in our students by encouraging them to
combine understanding and methods from cross-disciplinary academic research to
develop and manage challenging real life projects provided by partner businesses.
Similarly, civic virtue is nurtured through activity in social projects and exposure to
world trends in corporate governance, environmental limitations, sustainable growth and
cultural differences.
It is our conviction that educating students to be creative, entrepreneurial and responsible
business people contributes to a more socially and environmentally sound business
climate.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
As Dr Noreena Hertz, Associate Director of the Centre for International Business and
Management at the University of Cambridge stated:
This is the world of the Silent Takeover, a world in which governments can no longer be relied on to protect the
peoples interests. Blinded by the allure of the market, they now put corporate interests first. Dr Hertz goes
on to say: Delivering a quality product at a reasonable cost is not all that is demanded of corporations today.
The key to consumer satisfaction is not only how well a company treats its customers, but increasingly whether
it is perceived as taking its responsibilities to society seriously. People are demanding that corporations deliver
in a way that governments cant or wont.

OverviewNyenrode New Business School has a full-time four year programme where finishing graduates
attain a BBA New Business degree and BA (Hons) Business Management degree, accredited in
the Netherlands (NAVO) and United Kingdom (QAA) respectively. This offers the opportunity
for graduates to proceed to Masters programmes in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, or other
countries. With exemption from Foundation Year 1 evaluated on an individual basis (see admission
requirements and procedures), holders of a VWO / IB diploma have the potential to follow a full-timethree year programme.
Successful completion of the entire degree programme requires a 40 hours-per-week attitude
and motivation: the number of contact hours, including lectures, seminars and consultancy is
approximately 20 per week while the number of hours spent on group and individual work will be
roughly 20 to 25.
The degree programme is multi-disciplinary, consisting of modules organized under the headings
of: Academic Theory, Attitude & Skills and Applied Theory (Project Work). Within this are a fixed set
of required core modules which cover the main areas of business organizations e.g. Management &Human Resources; Accounting & Finance; Operations Management.
SpecialismA number of elective modules from five business functional areas (specialisms) are offered alongside
the core modules following the successful completion or exemption from Foundation Year 1:
Creative Business & Entertainment Management
Business & Entrepreneurial Marketing
Business & New Entrepreneurship
Business & Financial Management
This allows students the choice of following either a general or specialism programme. Those
opting for the general programme are free to choose from all the elective modules offered. For those
deciding to follow one of the five specialism programmes, the required core modules are extended
to include a compulsory set of elective modules according to the chosen specialism.
Foundation YearThe first year, or Foundation Year 1 is tailored toward holders of a HAVO (or international
equivalent) with a fit/gap approach to their individual backgrounds, and may therefore vary in
workload from candidate to candidate. It consists of a package of core modules designed to progress
students academically, provide them with a firm basis in fundamental business concepts and develop
their project management skills.

FOUR GOOD REASONS
TO CONSIDER OURBUSINESS DEGREE
1. The personal touchNot only the staff and coaches get to know their students personally, also all the students know each otherwell. For a major part of their studies, learners will be assigned to small groups, comprising five to eight
members, which act as business units. Although each member is an independent player, they are also
responsible for the group and are required to study and work closely together. Leadership, responsibility,
creativity and entrepreneurship are some of the qualities emphasized and practiced in these studies.
Professional coaches will give space to all groups to find their own solutions, while carefully monitoring the
individual academic results, productivity and level of participation in discussions.
2. Combining the university academic with
the practical professionalNyenrode New Business School offers an ideal combination for students who are interested in both
theoretical approach as well as the professional side of the business arena. Our close association with leadingcompanies enables us to offer a cutting-edge curriculum where students can be assured that they will always
be up to date in international business. Moreover, the companies with which we work are often interested in
entrepreneurial students for their own innovation-oriented future.

3. An international focusStudy locations in Amsterdam (Nyenrode New Business School) and London (University of Westminster),
along with the option to carry out the final dissertation project anywhere in the world, testify to the
international nature of our programme. Our partner companies are multinational in both character and
operations, and we place a strong accent on the European dimension of informed citizenship and personal
values and ethics. Students are involved with international projects in all years of their programme, e.g.
Ethiopia and India in years 1 and 2, and all graduates receive the internationally recognized BBA degree as
well as the BA (Hons) degree.
4. Education as an experienceFrom the first year, our students develop a toolkit (Showcase Projects) which provides them with the theory,
skills and attitude required to run a successful project. In the second year, they develop a spirit of creativityand understanding of what it is like to be an entrepreneur in new venture projects (Product Development),
while in other projects they learn to develop a sense of civic responsibility (Project Management). In the
third year, as owners of their own companies or in student-run companies (Business Planning, Budgeting
& Finance), they learn to sense the right balance between capital investment, expenses, market share
considerations and profit. Fourth-year students find themselves in the centre of the international academic
and business world in London, working on their final project (thesis / dissertation) which can take them
anywhere in the world. Throughout this period, students learn to fight their corner while ensuring they
remain good colleagues and responsible business people.

FOUNDATION YEAR (HONS) BUSINESS
& SPECIALISM
The Foundation Year 1, aimed at preparing holders of a HAVO (or international equivalent) for the subsequent years
of study, can be compared to a foundation level programme offered at most international universities. For those
candidates who wish to further develop their English proficiency, Nyenrode New Business School offers a summer
school opportunity at our partner University of Westminster in London for the duration of 6 weeks. The set of core
modules are designed to introduce students to the fundamental business concepts in the areas of marketing, finance,
human resources management, communications and law. Application of theoretical knowledge to real-life situations
begins already in this first year where students will be running two Showcase projects, of which one involves
branding an Ethiopian coffee in collaboration with fellow students from St. Marys University College (Addis Ababa).
BA IN BUSINESS GENERAL DEGREE
The general degree course is suitable for students who have not yet chosen the focus of their future business career and
wish to keep their options open. It allows them to emphasise specific aspects of their personal module portfolio when
applying for a general management position. In the second and third year, students can choose their elective modules
from any of the five offered specialism programmes available within Nyenrode New Business School. In the fourth year,

created instant global markets for creative industry players, while globalisation and digital convergence are transformingthe face of the industry. But building a competitive creative (services) business is a complex process including content
design and protection, new distribution and business models, and product diversification that cannot be achieved by
talent alone.
In the second year, students are introduced to the concepts and techniques of the creative industries and explore critical
core theory concerning marketing, finance, human resource management and communications as they relate to the
creative business environment. In the third year, copyright and contract law and an academic approach to creativity form
the major part of the programme. Creative industry practices are contextualised within more general business routines,
and integrated with functions and operations required in the business world. As mentioned under Course Structure,
during the fourth year the wide selection of modules offered by the University of Westminster provides challenging

Stimulate socially responsible entrepreneurship is one of Nyenrode New Business Schools main focuses. Our strong
belief that making business and making the world better are key factors to achieving a stable success is really starting
to generate some great results:
STUDENT-RUN COMPANY
Entrepreneurship, very much like the seeds of a pretty flower, requires fertile soil to grow. Nyenrode New
Business School has allowed StudyFlow to germinate, sprout and eventually, flourish. Were it not for the
freedom we were given at this school, our wild ideas might have very well been nipped in the bud. I have a rosy
outlook for anyone attending, and at the very least expect some new student run companies to blossom in the
years to come.
Edo van Rojen, Tom van Vooren and Philippe Taminiau are 3rdyear students at
Nyenrode New Business School and together they started their company StudyFlow.
When I started at Nyenrode New Business School I already knew that I wanted to start my own company. Lots of
ideas and projects came up and I could not focus on one specific trade. There was only one point I was sure of:
I wanted to start mainly in developing countries. During classes and coaching sessions the ideas matured and I
realized my real expectations. Now Im launching my own clothing company in Zimbabwe. The concept of it is
to make use of local knowledge of clothes manufacturing and local labor force to produce clothes at affordable
prices for their own communities. With this project, I feel myself contributing for a better world and Im sure
that a great future lays ahead us.
Mary Chekera is a 3rdyear student at Nyenrode New Business School and together with
her partner Tabeth Coorevits is preparing the launching of their company Glimlacht
Mode.
Nyenrode New Business School provided me an inspiring study and working environment. During my study
time I developed a new perspective on entrepreneurship a look where creativity and sustainability are the key
pillars. Nowadays I still see it present in my company, which I started during my study time and it is currently
active in 13 cities nationwide. Back then (and even now) I benefitted from the experience and viewpoints of my
lecturers, many of which have themselves the entrepreneurial spirit, and also the entrepreneurial mentality that
all my classmates have.
Georgi Tuaev is a 4thyear student and,, during his studies at Nyenrode New Business
School, started his company GratisPrint together with his partners Ilja Groenewegen,
Bram van Leur and Thomas van der Kleij.
