Navigating Tech Politics

1. Be Friendly

Make friends with people in other departments.

Throw a work party!

If the opportunity arrives, help out

other teams.

Be slow to get offended.

Join work clubs such as reading groups or

hobby interests.

Go to ALL outings in the beginning.

2. Be Awesome

Attend ALL meetings you are invited to in

the beginning.

Find out company priorities and ask if

you can work on them.

Be able to work alone.

3. Be Smart

If you don’t like your boss do not tell your

co-workers.

Know how everyone is connected.

Ask lots of questions.

Assume Not

Speak up in meetings.

If you are not appreciated try to move (if possible)

There will be “ass-h*les”

There will be introverts

There will be extroverts (maybe) ;)

4. Have a life

Have a friend group outside of work.

5. Be in Love

Love your job
