Why Lye?Even though it is necessary to use lye in the soap making process, there is no lye left in the final

product.The lye has reacted with the oils to form soap and glycerin.

In comparison, handmade soap is made in smaller batches, using cold process, which retains the natural glycerin within the soap itself.

Store bought soap usually doesn’t contain glycerin because it’s been removed to be added into lotions and other skin softening products.
