Place one ball of playdough, one pie tin, and one      magnifying glass (optional) in front of each chair.

STEPS1. Prepare clipboards with pencils and Listening Walk

checklists.2. Give each child a clipboard.3. Invite children to close their eyes for three seconds to

listen for any sounds. 4. After three seconds, invite children to share their

observations and mark them on their checklists. 5. Once children understand the activity, encourage them to

walk quietly around the outdoor space, marking on their checklists the sounds they hear. Make observations in the Great Outdoors

MONDRIAN FREEZE ARTA creative painting activity topractice stopping and starting

BY REDIRECTING“I see you would like the purple paint!  You can use the green paint right now!”

MATERIALS◯ blue painter’s tape       ◯ white paper         ◯ paintbrushes◯ tempera paints          ◯music player

STEPS1. Prepare papers by taping from edge to edge in multiple 

directions across paper.2. Set the table:

Place paints in the center. 3. Organize children’s play:

Place one piece of paper and one paintbrush in front of each chair.                                            

4. Start the music and invite children to paint. 5. Stop the music and invite children to “freeze!” 6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to give children lots of practice with 

starting and stopping. 7. After the paint dries, remove the tape carefully to reveal 

children’s Mondrian artwork.

PA S O S1. Prepara el papel blanco usando la cinta para pintura y

pégala de una esquina a otra y en múltiple direcciones. 2. Prepara la mesa:

Pon las pinturas en el centro de la meza. 3. Organiza el juego:

Pon un pedazo de papel y una brocha de pintura en frente de cada silla.

4. Empieza la música e invita a los niños a pintar. 5. Detén la música e invita a los niños hacer “freeze!” 6. Repite los pasos 3 y 4 para dar a los niños mucha practica

con empezar y parar. 7. Después de que la pintura se seque, cuidadosamente

remueve la cinta para revelar el trabajo de los niños de Arte de “Mondrian Freeze”.

For younger children, focus on books with clear, simple illustrations of happy, sad, mad, and scared.

show characters’ emotions. 2. Give each child a book and a magnifying glass. 3. Invite children to hunt for a feeling on the page where the 

bookmark is placed. 4. Invite children to share their observations.

CARDBOARD RAMPS

Encourage imagination and creativity with cardboard boxes

BY NARRATING“I see you’re planning what to do first.”

“First, you plan your ramp. Then you build it.”

MATERIALS◯ large pieces of cardboard ◯ tape ◯ toy cars

STEPS1. Create teams of 3 - 4 children per team.2. Organize children’s play:

Place three pieces of cardboard, one roll of tape, and one toy car at each team’s workspace.

3. Invite teams to plan, build, and test a cardboard ramp that can stand on its own.

4. Rotate to each team to observe and narrate their progress. 5. After 10 - 15 minutes, invite each team to present and test

their ramp using a toy car.

For younger children, stage the instructions and materials:

• First, give them just cardboard and invite them to plan.• Next, give them tape and invite them to build.

• Last, give them a car and invite them to test.

For older children, invite them to use similar materials to create anything out of cardboard!

3. Invita a los equipos a planear, construir, y poner a prueba la rampa que se pueda parar por sí mismo.

4. Observa y narra el progreso de cada equipo. 5. Después de 10-15 minutos, invita a cada equipo a presentar

y poner a prueba su rampa usando un carrito de juguete.

Para niños más pequeños, prepara instrucciones y materiales:

• Primero, dales nada más que el cartón e invítalos a planear.

• Después, dales tape e invítalos a construir.

• Por último, dales un carrito e invítalos a poner en prueba la rampa.

4. Scaffold children’s painting process:First, invite children to think about what their stick looks like to them.Next, invite children to plan what colors of paint to use.Last, invite children to paint their stick starter art.

5. Invite parents to paint on their own stick starter at drop off or pick up.

6. Display children’s and parents’ artwork side‐by‐side.

5. Invita a los familiares a pintar su propio arte de palo durante la llegada o salida de la escuela.

6. Expone la obra de arte de los hijos y sus familiares lado-a-lado.
