NATURAL HISTORY (minor) A minor in natural history provides students with a concentration of knowledge and skills through experiential, field-based coursework, in- ternship opportunities, and a capstone experience. The study of natural history is the foundation of the biological sciences and is fundamental to place-based studies, nature interpretation, and environmental education. LOOKING AHEAD TO THE FUTURE A minor in natural history offers non-science majors students an excellent foundation from which to launch a meaningful vocation in the science field. Through this minor, students hone skills and knowledge that can be applied to a diversity of professions. They are expected to develop inquiry skills and the ability to use field skills and integrated theory of organismal biology and ecological systems to assess real-world problems. Types of careers students pursue A natural history minor prepares students to pursue a variety of careers or graduate study. To qualify for a natural history minor, students must choose from the required list of courses and electives. Students are also encouraged to spend time working or becoming involved at the James H. Barrow Field Station and/or completing an internship or study-abroad trip that can complement their studies.
