Introduction

In the past two years Switzerlandʼs Open Netball Team have attended two international tournaments. In 2012 we achieved a World ranking position and subsequently this position was improved in 2013. The Kadernational/Cadre national replaces the Open Team.

The Netball Switzerland Committee are in the process of reviewing our competitive opportunities with a long term view to improve the World Ranking position to top 25 by 2020. There are some challenges ahead to find appropriate levels of competition within the region or across the world but with a development partnership with England Netball underway we hope that this can help us to achieve our target and help us to define the steps to get there.

This year we will be forming a squad that can benefit from extended training time together in preparation for tournaments and events. The model for this squad will have similarities to our Cadre dʼEspoir programme which we have been running for 3 years with Junior players but has been inspired by discussions at the International Netball Federation Congress 2013 with other developing netball countries.

The main aim for Netball Switzerland is to develop a pool of talented players who will train together on a regular basis and be ʻmatch readyʼ when required for international tournaments and events.

I really hope that this is of interest to several of you. To establish such a squad seems the next logical step in achieving more with Swiss Netball. Of course I welcome your feedback on this and obviously your help to make this a smooth transition to greatness at any time.

Section 1 - Becoming part of the Nationalkader/Cadre national

Players who have been identified for consideration to enter this squad or players keen to present themselves for selection to the squad will have the opportunity to participate in this exciting programme from January 2014.

Players will be eligible for selection to the squad if living, working or playing for a Netball Club in Switzerland. In all cases players shall be a fully paid up member of a Netball Switzerland affiliated club or an Individual member of Netball Switzerland.

The Nationalkader/Cadre national has an exciting year ahead –

• Zug Invitational Swiss Netball Tournament (3-4 May 2014) • Inter-Gulf Tournament March 2014 (to be confirmed) • Invitational Tournament in Republic of Ireland, September/October 2014

(to be confirmed) • Nations Cup in Singapore December 2014 (to be confirmed) • Tri-Nations Cup in Hong Kong February 2015(to be confirmed) • World Netball Championships Development Event in Sydney, Australia

August 201(to be confirmed)

Netball Switzerland has appointed Sam Brightman as the National kader/Cadre national Lead Coach. She will oversee the training programme and where necessary direct any visiting coaches. Sam is a Level 3 UKCC Netball Coach with a Degree in Elite Sport Management and comes to us through our work with our Development Partnership with England Netball: It is hoped that Sam will lead the team to events that we attend.

It is anticipated that we will select a squad of approximately 24 players. Training commitment on average will be one weekend per month with training sessions increasing in frequency nearer to events. Players are expected to commit to all the training sessions and events for which they are selected. Players may be asked to attend extra individual or specialist training if required as well as doing their own individual programme set out by the Coach.

There will inevitably be a financial commitment as well as time and effort. At the time of writing, players will need to be prepared to fund their training as well as any participation in domestic and international tours upon selection. While there is no intention to discriminate against anyone with financial concerns it is important that you understand that Netball Switzerland currently receives no funding or sponsorship at all. Netball Switzerland endeavours to secure sponsorship and funding in the longer term and will direct any such monies where it deems appropriate.

Selection (January 2014)

1. Introduction

The Netball Switzerland (NCH) Selection Policy and Procedures will be transparent and accessible. At all times the policy will be communicated and adhered to. The NCH Selection Policy and Procedures will be made available to all NCH Members. The policy will be made available directly to all athletes entering the selection process.

The Selection Panel selecting athletes to represent NCH is to be agreed by the NCH Committee.

It is recognised that the international environment changes frequently within Netball, whilst the principles of this selection policy will remain unaltered, it is likely that the policy will require to be reviewed regularly.

The NCH Committee will review the policy annually to ensure that it remains current and relevant.

2. Principles of Selection.

2.1 The NCH Selection Policies and Procedures will be equitable. No athlete will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of marital status, social class, colour, race, ethnic origin, creed or disability, or will be disadvantaged by conditions or requirements that cannot be shown to be relevant to performance.

2.2 In making final selections the NCH Head Coach will have the final say over any disputed athletes.

2.3 The NCH Selection Policies and Procedures will be consistent. At all times the provisions of the policy will be applied rigorously.

2.4 The selection into the NCH team shall consist of the number of athletes the selectors deem appropriate or by following the rules dictated by the association organising the event.

2.5 Whilst all efforts will be made to give every athlete equal exposure during selection, positional imbalance may lead to a variance in court time.

2.6 Athletes will enjoy a range of training opportunities as determined by NCH. The ongoing failure of any athlete to meet training requirements could result in de-selection.

Page 8: Nationalkader/ Cadre national · 2013. 11. 28. · Nationalkader/ Cadre national 2014 onwards Introduction In the past two years Switzerlandʼs Open Netball Team have attended two

2.7 Any athlete may choose to withdraw from the team voluntarily. Such withdrawal must be done in writing (or email) to either the President of NCH or the Team Manager.

2.8 A training and selection calendar will be produced prior to selection. It will provide athletes with the appropriate selection and training dates. Any changes to these will be notified as soon as they are known.

2.9 The NCH selection process is open. This means that new athletes may be invited to join a team at any time.

3. The Selection Process

The NCH Committee and designated coaches acting for NCH are responsible for the selection of athletes into a group or a team for an event.

3.1 Athletes will be identified by the relevant selectors based upon observations of athlete performance.

3.2 All athletes involved in the selection process will be informed of their individual selection outcome in writing (either electronically and/or by letter).

3.3 Any changes in the selection policy and/or procedures will be communicated widely and, in particular, to all squad athletes.

4. Grievance and Appeals Process

4.1 There are only two grounds for appeal within the NCH Selection Process.

These are;

i) Selection was not made according to the NCH Selection Policy.

ii) There was unreasonable bias or conflict of interest in one or more members of the Selection Panel.

4.2 Any appeals against a selection decision must be in the first instance be referred in writing to the NCH committee within 7 days of team selection being announced. This selection policy has been developed using guidance from the England Netball Regional selection policy, February 2010.
