Technical Collaborator
TECHNICAL COLLABORATOR ICAR-Central Costal Agricultural Research Institute, a premier institute under ICAR, provides research and development support to the agriculture and allied sector of coastal region of the country. It plays a major role in promoting excellence in agriculture. This Institute is mainly involved in research activities which are aimed at improving the production and productivity of major crops of this region through various strategies including farming system approach. Other important areas of research include livestock and fisheries sector to increase the milk and meat production.
The National Symposium on ‘Advances in Agriculture through Sustainable Technologies and Holistic Approaches (AASTHA)’ focuses on balancing the sustainability of present agricultural systems in respect of resources that are finite vis-a-vis human population that is ever growing. In the times to come, this burgeoning human population is going to result in increasing stress on the natural resources of the biosphere. The problem is being compounded further by the rapidly changing climate. Its impact on sustainability of food supply is being felt in terms of quantity as well as quality. Our planet is adorned with a spectrum of ecological conditions that favour diversity of species and genes. However, we are still unable to cope up with the food requirement of more than seven billion people across the globe. Agricultural crops need regular improvement and it is a never ending process. In this situation of growing population, shrinking resources and changing climate, the only way out is to devise sustainable solutions by adopting holistic approaches with blend of modern technology and ethnic knowledge. This symposium plans to build a movement across the country to identify emerging technologies in agriculture that can sustain the burgeoning human population as well as the ecological balance and their transmission to fellow scientists, policy makers, extension personnel and peasantry.
