Mishap Reporting

As soon as practical:

• Pilot reports mishap to: • OIA

• District Flight Safety Officer (or DSO-AV if DFSO is unavailable)

• DFSO reports mishap to: • District Commodore directly

• National Flight Safety Officer • If approved by DCO, may coordinate with

DSO-AV

Mishap Reporting

• Mishap reporting does not equal

punishment

• This does not apply for reckless or foolhardy

Maintenance Reporting

Requirements

• Maintenance Reporting Requirement to AUXAIR and Coast Guard Leadership

• Timely Maintenance Reporting is Mandatory

• There are Disciplinary Actions for Not Meeting the Maintenance Reporting Requirement

8

Malfunctioning or Damaged Aircraft

• If a precautionary landing is made for observed or suspected aircraft

malfunctions or damage, the PIC will conduct a preliminary inspection/analysis upon landing, contact the Air Station Operations Officer (OPS) and discuss the situation.

• A precautionary landing is “a premeditated landing, on or off an airport, when further flight is possible but inadvisable. Examples of conditions that may call for a precautionary landing include deteriorating weather, being lost, fuel shortage, and gradually developing engine trouble”.

• Further flight under orders, without the approval of the Air Station, is prohibited. When repairs are made by an A&P, the PIC is responsible to inform the Air Station of the outcome.

• This provision includes any suspected aircraft malfunctions or damage discovered during the aircraft pre-flight or pre-take-off checks.

Annual Coast Guard currency requirements are waived until DEC 31, 2021 EXCEPT:

Air Mission Currency Pilots Jun 30, 2021

CRM Refresher All Dec 31, 2020

Notes:

1. Pilots must maintain and meet all FAA license, medical, and flight requirements.

2. The CRM Refresher was required to be completed by end of Calendar Year 2020. If it was not completed aviation members MUST complete the 2021 CRM Refreshers BEFORE any flights.

Aviation C-Schools

AUX-17 (Initial CRM) required prior to certification in any Aviation Qualification

AUX-18 (Spatial Disorientation and Aviation Survival) is required prior to certification in any Pilot Qualification

Must be re-taken every 5 years to stay current – most AUX aviators are due in CY2022. Due to class frequency and size we need to enroll approximately half of currently qualified pilots and flight crews in CY 2021 courses.

2021 Aviation Workshop

Response Directorate

14

Recurrent CRM

A recurrent CRM class must be completed annually

(typically at the Flight Safety Workshop). No later than 15

months after the last annual CRM or AUX-17. This currency

metric is tracked in AUXDATA II.

Active Duty FSOs, or AUX DFSOs who took the 2019 AUX-

14 course may instruct the course live.

AUX instructors specifically authorized by CG-1131 may

conduct CRM refresher online.

Non-Towered Airport

• Pilots of Auxiliary aircraft operating at non-towered airports should exercise additional caution and mitigate the risk by following the procedures described in the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), Airplane Flying Handbook, and pertinent Advisory Circulars (AC).

• These references provide guidance for standardized traffic patterns, communicational phraseology, and operational procedures.

• Pilots shall follow recommended procedures for the transition from the enroute to the landing phase of flight, standardized entry into, and departure from the pattern.

2021 Aviation Workshop

Response Directorate

18

COVID-19 Mitigation

Flight Crews must develop a mitigation strategy for flight

Research COVID infection status for any location linked to the mission. PICs now need to include the requirement to know and understand the Covid-19 status and recommendations or laws concerning traveling in and out of each state or locale.

Flight crews exposed to infection must quarantine for 14 days. Individual Districts may have additional restrictions.

COVID-19 Mitigation

The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) list now

includes mask, gloves, disinfectant wipes, and

cleaner. Our standard procedures for post flight

now include disinfecting any surface areas inside

the cockpit or normally handled surfaces on the

aircraft, including headphones and

communication equipment.

Code 22B NOT for Underway Hours

There have been many ANSC-7030s (Activity

Report - Mission) incorrectly submitted using

Mission Code 22B in conjunction with underway

patrol activities. Mission Code 22B is NOT an

underway Mission Code. Please check with your IS

officer for the correct code to be using for your

specific activity.

are trained to give and which is within the scope of

their assigned duties. For example, an Auxiliarist on

an authorized patrol who is not CPR, qualified must

not perform CPR but an Auxiliarist who is CPR

First aid training (beyond a basic awareness of emergency

situations) is not a part of the Auxiliary boat or air crew

qualification process. Auxiliarists, while on orders (verbal or

written) or while assigned to duty, can give first aid. In cases of

boating emergencies, Auxiliarists shall advise the unit commander
