In his Russian greatcoatslamming open the door with an unpardonable bang, and he has been here ever since.
He changes everything, rearranges the furniture, his hand hovers by the phone;he will answer now, he says;he will be the answer.
Tonight he sits down to dinnerat the head of the tableas we eat, mute;later, he climbs into bedbetween us. Even as I sit here,he stands behind meclamping two colossal hands on my shouldersand bends down and whispers to my neck,From now on, you write about me.

National Poetry Month is a month-long, national celebration of poetry established by the Academy of American Poets. The concept is to widen the attention of individuals and the media to the art of poetry, to living poets, to our complex poetic heritage, and to poetry books and journals of wide aesthetic range and concern.
