NATIONAL KITE MONTH CELEBRATES
THE JOYS OF KITE FLYING
Flying a kite is a perfect way to celebrate the arrival of spring. In fact, the American KitefliersAssociation (AKA) has joined forces with the Kite Trade Association International (KTAI) to declare April as National Kite Month (NKM). During this month-long worldwide celebration, the supporting associations encourage individual enthusiasts, local kite clubs, schools, parks, and others to organize events to promote kite flying.
NATIONAL KITE MONTH CELEBRATES
THE JOYS OF KITE FLYING
The AKA is keeping an up-to-date calendar of NKM events in various locales and encourages all organizers to list events of any type or scale. In fact, the AKA and NKAI want to highlight not only kite-flying events, but also kite-making classes, lectures, public displays of kites, sport kite demonstrations, and more. Their goal is to have 600 events that demonstrate that kite flying is a wonderful activity for participants of all ages and physical activity levels and can be an accessible and enjoyable lifelong hobby. To help young children learn about kite history, building a kite, and the basic physics of kite flight, the AKA has a special “Kites in the Classroom” manual for elementary school teachers.
