Obituary Book review DAVID DAWSON Mr David Dawson, a founder member of the Society, has died. He was well known to London breweries, dairies and the soft drinks trade in which he served for over 50 years in connection with the family business of Dawson Brothers Ltd, Leeds. David Dawson controCed the London factory at Woodford Green for servicing the trade and ‘also began a successful kitchen equipment company. He had been retired for some years, but will be remembered by older members in the trade at home and abroad. AK Eastern Counties branch 25 th anniversary dinner The Eastern Counties branch of the London, South and East section held a 25th anniversary dinner on Friday 9 September 1988 at Newnham College, Cambridge. Seventy nine members and guests attended to make this a highly successful and enjoyable evening. Thanks are due to John Holmes, Chairman of the Eastern Counties branch and his hard working committee, and the excellent support of companies and members alike. With the approach of 1992 and the closer integration of the European Community, it is appropriate that a Dairy Dictionary in three of the Community languages should be published. The dictionary is in three sections - in each, the indexing is in English, French or German. Over 6000 terms are given with translation into all three tongues. After a fairly detailed perusal, a translation of most terms associated with modern dairy farming and dairy processing was found. Thus, the dictionary can be recommended as a very timely and useful addition to our reference collections. DDM National Dairy Council Executive Board The National Dairy Council’s Executive Board has been increased to 12 with the appointment of two new members, one from the Dairy Trade Federation and one from the Milk Marketing Board: Trevor Blackburn, Managing Director Dairy Group at Northern Foods and Malcolm Stewart, a dairy farmer in South Wales and Special Member of the MMB. David Merriott.
