America’s Complete College Georgia Mandate• The United States will require that more individuals complete some

form of higher education that leads to a certificate, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree. Complete College America’s goal is that by 2020, 60 percent of young adults will hold a college certificate or degree.

Complete College Georgia Initiative

• In Georgia, over 60 percent of the jobs in the future will require individuals with college degrees. Currently in Georgia, only 42 percent of young adults have these degrees, and if the state continues on its current path this percentage will not change much by the year 2020.To remain competitive, Georgia must not only maintain current graduation levels, but also produce an additional estimated 250,000 graduates in upcoming years. Too many Georgia students take courses they do not need and that do not count toward their degree. A study conducted by Complete College America shows that Georgia students and taxpayers spend more than $126 million each year for excess college credits.

Workforce Environmental ScanFailure to Launch: Structural Shift and the New Generation

• The employment rate of 25- to 29-year-old men fell from 94 percent to 85 percent; the age group’s rate of full-time employment fell even more, from 80 percent to 65 percent — a drop more than twice the decline experienced by women in the same age group (a 15 percentage point decline for men versus a 6 percentage point decline for women).
