South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI)

An entity of the Department of EnvironmentalAffairsLeads and coordinates research, and monitorsand reports on the state of biodiversity in SouthAfricaProvides knowledge and information, givesplanning and policy advice and pilots best-practice management models in partnershipwith stakeholders

• The SANBI is mandated to monitor and report on the status of biodiversity in South Africa.

• SANBI meets part of this mandate through the NBA - which reports on the status and trends of biodiversity and ecosystems on a 5-7 year cycle.

• The NBA focusses on high-level indicatorssuch as threat status and protection level for species and ecosystems
