NATA WORKSHOP REPORT Theme: Sustainable Tourism Development & Nature Conservation in Botswana: Engaging Communities Introduction  The ninth edition of the Bona Botswana En vironmenta l Conservation workshops was billed for and hosted in Nata on the 27 th  August 2015. Preparations for the event wer e completed weeks in adva nce with conrma tions from vari ous government de pa rtments as we ll as non- go vernmenta l or ga ni za ti on su ch as the Na ta Conservation Trust and the Nata Bird an anctuar!" #epartment of $orestr! and %ange %e sour ces" Nata &and Board" the #epar tment of T ourism" #epartment of 'i ldlif e and as usual the Bot swana (ua licatio ns )ut hor it! * +ember s of the communit! were also well represented in the audience*  This report will anal!ze the said workshop with the ob,ective of ensuring that we improve and learn from the eperience gained there* The 'orkshop was rated as above average with ./ participants making it to the venue* )ll the stakeholders who were billed to make presentations as highlighted to above came earl! and made the sai d pr esenta tio ns" we however ni shed outsi de the set sched ul e" inste ad of completing at 01233hrs as envisaged we ended up completing at 04213hrs due to the fac t tha t the pr esenta tio ns too k lon ger tha n env isa ged and the aud ien ce brought forth 5uestions which needed epansive or detailed answers* The audience was however engaging and had 5uestions for the various stakeho lders" their level of engagement was however lower than the other workshops that we had previousl! hosted* Below is an anal!sis of the evaluation of the wor kshop in Nata*  Ch!!"ng"s 0* The Nat a works hop saw us hav ing a turnou t of ./ peop le" lower than the envisaged 63 delegates" representing a 7.*48 turn-up* This however puts the onus on us to increase our advertising e9orts in communities and to ensure that we integrate with the communit! for face to face invitations*

departments as well as non-governmental organization such as the Nata

Conservation Trust and the Nata Bird an anctuar!" #epartment of $orestr! and

%ange %esources" Nata &and Board" the #epartment of Tourism" #epartment of 

'ildlife and as usual the Botswana (ualications )uthorit!* +embers of the

communit! were also well represented in the audience*

 This report will anal!ze the said workshop with the ob,ective of ensuring that we

improve and learn from the eperience gained there* The 'orkshop was rated as

above average with ./ participants making it to the venue* )ll the stakeholders who

were billed to make presentations as highlighted to above came earl! and made the

said presentations" we however nished outside the set schedule" instead of 

completing at 01233hrs as envisaged we ended up completing at 04213hrs due to

the fact that the presentations took longer than envisaged and the audience

brought forth 5uestions which needed epansive or detailed answers* The audience

was however engaging and had 5uestions for the various stakeholders" their level of

.* The inter-activeness of the audience was low in comparison to other locations

with onl! a few members of the audience being active in asking 5uestions

and seeking for practical solutions from the various presentations made

during the workshop* :t should however be of note that those who did engage

with the presenters brought forth relevant 5uestions as well as sought

practical solutions for their communit!*

Achi"#"$"nts

 The Nata workshop was average" the above mentioned challenges led to its

classication as average* The following are the achievements of the Nata 'orkshop2

0* )ll the presenters that had conrmed participation at the event attended and

arrived on time for the event* The presentations made during the workshop

were also location specic as the! sought out to unearth issues specic to theNata communit!*

.* +embers of the communit!" albeit a few" were able to share their thoughts

with the presenters as well as to seek for clarit! on the presentations made

0* 'e will continue hosting the workshops in private venues where such

facilities eist in the various locations" where the! do not we will seek for and

partner with organizations that have the relevant capacit! to host the

workshop*

.* +oving forward" invitations to stakeholders and other audience members willbe handled b! both the Phiri Tourism team and Botswana (ualications

)uthorit! to maimize on the numbers as was the case with this workshop*

 The invitation list will be compiled and shared with Botswana (ualications

)uthorit!*1* The audience for the coming workshops should be varied to include !outh

groups" communit! leaders" government departments" students" teachers"

entrepreneurs and other interest group*

Preparations for Tsabong are positivel! underwa!= the event will be hosted on the > th

of +arch .304 at the #ikukama &odge conference facilit!* Preparations for the said

workshop will be shared between the Botswana (ualications )uthorit! and Phiri

 Tourism Consortium to ensure the e9ective deliver! of the mandate of theworkshops* 'e look forward to a successful workshop in Tsabong and can onl! learn

from the challenges faced in organizing the said workshops* 'e are grateful for the

advice" mentoring and support we get from the Botswana (ualications )uthorit!

Bona Botswana workshop team and look forward to continued advice on how to
