I am so pleased to welcome you back to Schermerhorn Symphony Center! !ank you for being such a vital part of the Nashville Symphony during this past year of challenges and triumphs. I think of every concert season as a collection of stories, and that story begins with you. Your presence in the concert hall brings our orchestra to life, and your support makes our dreams possible.

Our next season promises to be one incredible journey, and I invite you to join us. We’ll explore the simple joys of Copland’s Appalachian Spring, the valiant struggle of Shostakovich’s Leningrad Symphony and the soulful lyricism of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony.

New American music is a big part of our story as well. Next season we’ll continue to give a voice to visionary American composers such as Béla Fleck, Terry Riley and Richard Danielpour, each of whom will debut ambitious new works with our orchestra. As always, we will be joined by world-renowned guest artists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, Chris Botti, Marvin Hamlisch and Nashville’s own Tracy Silverman and Larry Carlton.

And of course, there’s the story of our return to Schermerhorn Symphony Center a"er the historic #ood of 2010. Although we greatly missed the acoustic excellence and intimacy of our beautiful hall last season, our symphony continued to play at a world-class level regardless of where they were performing. !at’s a testament to the virtuosity of our orchestra, who have earned an invitation to play at Carnegie Hall in May 2012.

I know that you’re just as excited to be back at the Schermerhorn as we are. !ere’s no better place to experience wonderful stories told through great music, and I look forward to seeing you here.

I’ve performed as a soloist all over the world, and Schermerhorn Symphony Center is without a doubt one of the best concert halls I’ve ever played in. And it’s home! In addition to sharing the joy of music with concertgoers at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the Nashville Symphony is dedicated to making sure that all people in Middle Tennessee have barrier-free access to music and to music education. Our goal is to become a vital resource for families, schools and at-risk populations throughout the region.

Each season, we serve 170,000 students, teachers and adults through a wide variety of education and community engagement programs. !ese include our Young People’s Concerts, which o$er students an opportunity to hear a concert at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and our Instrument Petting Zoo, which gives many children their %rst hands-on experience with playing a musical instrument.

In 2007, we launched One Note, One Neighborhood, which provides comprehensive music education services to targeted school clusters in the Metro Nashville Public Schools system. !is continually expanding initiative, which seeks to bring meaningful and lasting change to our community, is a cornerstone of the Nashville Symphony’s education programs.

To ensure that all people have the chance to experience the Nashville Symphony, every summer our Regions Community Concerts series takes the orchestra out into city parks and other public spaces throughout Middle Tennessee. Every year, we also invite the entire community to take part in our Regions FREE Day of Music, a daylong celebration at Schermerhorn Symphony Center featuring more than two dozen performances by local ensembles.

Classical ConversationsO$ered on the Balcony Level one hour prior to each SunTrust Classical Services concert, these informal talks o$er upbeat, insightful discussions with composers, guest artists, conductors and Nashville Symphony musicians about the evening’s repertoire.

The Symphony Café and Lobby BarsLocated in the West Lobby of Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the Symphony Café o$ers a bistro-style à la carte menu beginning two hours prior to the performance. !e Café is also open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Seven bars located throughout the building o$er premier spirits, cocktails, wine, beer, so" drinks and bottled water.

Discounted Parking at The Pinnacle at Symphony Place!e garage at !e Pinnacle at Symphony Place, located across the street from Schermerhorn Symphony Center on !ird Avenue, o$ers 987 well-lit and secure parking spaces just steps away from our East Atrium door. !e parking fee is $10, and Symphony patrons may pre-purchase parking vouchers from our box o&ce.

ValetValet parking is available for all Symphony performances on Symphony Place, on the north side of the building between !ird and Fourth avenues. We also o$er pre-paid valet parking for all performances. For more details, call Patron Services at 615.687.6401.

ShuttlesFor $10 cash per person, round-trip shuttle service is available for SunTrust Classical Series and Bank of America Pops Series concerts. First come, %rst served.
