NEW STAFF Hi, my name is Jackie Quilling. I am the new first

grade teacher and intervention specialist at New Auburn Ele-

mentary. I am excited for this opportunity to teach at New Auburn and I am looking forward to a great year.

I grew up on a dairy farm by Elk Mound and was homeschooled K-12. I

have known since I was young that I wanted to be a

teacher. I enjoyed helping out with my six younger siblings, and I had the opportunity to work with kids in my church and loved it! After I graduated high school, I pur-sued my education degree at UW-Stout. I graduated with honors and moved to Eau Claire, where I worked at Kindercare Learning Center. During my free time I enjoy hanging out with my big family, Mom, Dad, six sisters, and two brothers. I also enjoy playing and watching sports, snowboarding, and reading.

One of the most rewarding things about teaching is be-ing able to shape the hearts and minds of the next gen-eration. As a teacher, I have the potential to impact my student’s lives and I intend to be a positive role model and help each one to reach their full potential.

We are so excited to intro-duce a new face to

the #NewAuburn staff! Please meet Darlene Plenty, special education aide.

Darlene is married and has five adult children - 2 sons and three daughters. She also has 11 grandchildren -

the oldest is 10 and the 12th will be here in October. Dar-lene enjoys having family gatherings and fun times with her grandchildren, making lasting memories. In her spare time she enjoys spend-ing time on the pontoon fish-ing with her husband Mike and their German Shepard and two yorkies. Darlene wanted to share that "I am excited to be a part of the New Auburn School and

meeting all the faces!"

Help give her a warm welcome here with a virtual thumbs up or comment!

The School District of #NewAuburn would like to welcome our

new Jr./Sr. High School Science Teacher, Brit-tany Zimmerman.

Brittany graduated from the University of Wis-consin-Stout. She is originally from the east-ern part of the state, Oconto, WI. Some of Brittany's hobbies in-clude scrap-booking, playing and watching sports, reading and a love for the outdoors.

She is currently plan-ning her future wedding to Nathan Powell. We are excit-ed to have Brittany join our excellent team.

Hello. My name is Dawn Maresh. I am the new assis-tant cook. I am so overjoyed to be a part of such a ex-ceptional school system with wonderful staff and stu-dents! I have been living in this nice community for 14 years .In my leisure time I enjoy spending time with my daughter, husband, family and friends. I also love to cook, attend concerts, camp, snowmobile, four wheel, shop, fish, and go boating. I am looking forward to learning all the aspects of the kitchen, and getting to know all the staff and students more. Here's to a great year ahead!

2016 Statewide Transition Academy

“Transition Practices” was the

subject of a presentation by New Auburn High School teachers and students at the 2016 Statewide Transition Academy held October 4-5 in Wisconsin Dells. Kristine North, Special Needs teacher, and Cindy Sheskey, Business & Infor-mation Technology teacher, along with students Helen Glaser and Nicole Nims-ger highlighted best practices from their Career Skills Class. This in-clusive class, which is co-taught by Mrs. North and Ms. Sheskey, has a mix-ture of students with and without spe-cial needs working together. While helping students develop employability skills the class operates two school-based businesses: a Snack Cart and Bal-loons and Buttons.

During their presentation, the students took the audience on a virtual tour of the businesses highlighting specific tasks required in operating each business. Those tasks include in-ventory control; communications with customers; product deliveries; cash control, customer service and market-ing. Two highlights of the course are the Business and Community Outreach Day and Mock Interviews. The Outreach Day enables students to visit a variety of area businesses to learn what employers expect of good employees, how the busi-ness advertises for employees, and what the business does. The students shared the benefits of preparing a re-sume’ and cover letter and practicing their interview skills with people from the business community during the mock interviews.

Mrs. North and Ms. Sheskey dis-cussed the rigorous curriculum of the Career Skills class which includes business ethics, communications skills

in the workplace, self-advocacy, career exploration, planning for post-secondary education and work after high school, conducting a job search, and employment compensation and laws. The teachers explained how students and em-ployers can benefit from this type of course offering.

Four hundred students, parents, teachers and other school officials at-tended this year’s transition academy,

the theme of which was “College and Career Ready.”

(L to R): Cindy Sheskey (Business Education Instructor), Ni-cole Nimsger (New Auburn Student), Helen Glaser (New Au-burn Student), and Kristine North (Special Education Instructor/Transition Coordinator).
