Safety Message

• White Sands is a hazardous test facility– Hazards include:

• Hypergolic propellants• Toxic laboratory chemicals• Cryogenic liquids• High pressure gas systems• Heavy equipment• Industrial hazards• Gratings and uneven/elevated

surfaces• Environmental conditions• Critters (rattlesnakes,

scorpions, spiders, etc.)

• Cautions:– Do not reach where you cannot see– Watch where you step– Notify escort if you see any critters– In the event of an emergency, follow your escort’s

instructions

WSTF Mission

Provide the expertise and infrastructure to test and evaluate spacecraft materials, components, and propulsion systems to enable the safe exploration and use of space

Protective Services Mission Statement

The Mission of NASA White Sands Protective Services is to insure the protection of NASA and site tenant personnel, property, information, facilities, and operations, from all internal and external threats.

WSTF Overview

• Constructed in 1962 to support Apollo Project• Subsidiary Unit of NASA Johnson Space Center• Occupies 28 square miles of the SW corner of WSMR• Annual budget is ~ $80 million• ~ 56 NASA • ~ 450 contractor personnel• Large buffer zone and controlled

remote property for hazardous testing• Moderate desert climate ideal for

year-round testing• Existing environmental permits in

place for hazardous testing

• Rocket Engine System Test Stands with Vacuum• Long-duration Large Altitude Simulation System• Full-scale Hypergolic and Cryogenic Propulsion

White Sands Complex

WSC Overview

• Constructed in 1990s to support NASA’s Space Communications

• Subsidiary Unit of Goddard Space Flight Center• Located in two limited areas within WSTF perimeter• ~ 6 NASA and ~ 450 contractor personnel• 24X7/365 operation• Clear skies and lack of natural hazards• Shuttle, ISS, Hubble, Other space communications.

– Type: Cost Plus/Award Fee with ID/IQ– Current Period of Performance:

• Current Fire-Emergency Services Contract– Separate from this procurement– Dispatch also handles Security communications and monitors

alarm room.

Clearances

• Contractor personnel must be U.S. citizens and maintain Secret Security Clearances.

• Some positions will require TS-SCI• A Top Secret Facility Security Clearance is

required
