Please note that, for the purpose of this piece, each instrumentalist will be playing from two staves.

Staves

In regards of this piece, such notation strategy--frequent in the works of Lachenmann and other contemporaries--aims to allow control over the

choreographty of playing as an independent formal parameter. For the majority of the piece, bowing is synchronized despite individual music material.

The synchronicity of playing, then, emerges as a contrasting source of tension and resolution.

Bowing should be discussed by the duo in rehearsal and fixated.

The four lines of the upper staffindicate the region in which the string is touched by the bow at all times.
