INTRODUCTIONTowriteanovelandtowriteascriptisn’tthesamework.IfIalreadyknowmyabilitytodothefirst,Iwantedtotrythesecondoneandlearnfromtheresultwheretoevolve.NarrativedesignisindeedaworkIcanenjoytodosomeday,andIneededtoknowwhattofocuson.IalsochosetowriteitinEnglish.IcreatedamissioninspiredbyintheworldofTomClancy’sTheDivision-agameIenjoyedto play previously - to reuse some assets of the game and the way missions are done.However,someelementsaredifferent:

- Tocreatenewsets,themapdoesn’thavethesamedelimitation.- Icreatedanewfactionandnewcharacters- Themissionisnotcompatiblewiththeoriginalgameandcannotbeincorporated.If

itwas,themission’sfinalrevelationshouldhavecreatedconsequencestothegame,andAaronKenner’sstoryline.

In the end, I really enjoyed to write it. I have a better knowledge of what’s difficult toanticipate, andofwhat I have to learn. Somegameplaydocumentsordetails seem tobemissingandIcertainlyputtomuchgamedesigndetails.Also,thefinalareaisaflawedideaIhavetochangeinthenextattempt.

ENVIRONNEMENT

Globaluniverse:TheDivisionThemissiontakesplaceintheuniverseofTheDivision.Players(fourinthismission)areSHDagents,andtheyarestillfightingtofreeNewYorkCityfromhostilefactionsandthegreenplague.Inthischaos,anewhostilegroupisfindinghisway:TheVision.Hostilefaction:TheVisionFormerSHDagentscomposethehostilefaction.Thereasonofthisrebellionisunclearatthetimeofthemission.Later,wewilldiscoverthattheywanttoexpendthegreenplagueasanecessaryeviltofreetheworld.ThisiswhytheycalledthemselvesTheVision.Theirleader,unknown,isprobablystillworkingundercoverinTheDivision.TheyusethesameequipmentastheSHD,plusflamethrowers.Thehostage:EthanSteinbergEthan, 24, is an inventive, handy SHD agent. He has the feeling he can do everything hewants, sohedoesnotalwaysworkby thebook, followthemissionor listentohissquad-partnerNicoleorhissupervisors.Hehasaneldestsister,Annie,alsoworkinginTheDivisionasananalyst.Missionlocation:LibertyIslandThemainpartofthemissiontakesplaceonLibertyIsland,NYC.Thevisionchoosethisplaceasaheadquarterforthesymboloffreedomandnewworld–inreferenceofthefirst“NewWorld”visionimmigrantssawwhentheycamefromEuropeinthepastcentury.Thegardenaround themonument is transformed as amilitary camp, as well as FortWood and thepedestal.

(Estimatedtime:1’30’’)MissionsynopsisWhen Ethan came back from a regularmission with his partner Nicole, he came upon apresumed dead Division agent in conversation with unknown hostiles about an on-goingattackagainsttheDivision’sBaseofoperation.TheytriedtostopthembutNicolewaskilledand Ethan was taken hostage. They sent him to their headquarter on Liberty Island totorturehimandgetinformation.Annie,aSHDanalyst,sendsasquadtorescuehim.Onhisside,Ethan,whodoesnotknowifsomeoneiscoming,triestoescape,causingdifficultiestotheplayers.MissionobjectiveSavethehostageandlearnwhatheknows.MissionactivationWhentheplayerchoosethemissioninthemap,hereceivesabrief:

LEVEL1Fto3F–INFILTRATIONThe squadhas to findhisway to thepedestal, passing trough thegarden/camp (1F), FortWood(2F)totherooftop(3F).The garden is transformed as a well-organized military camp and many elements (tents,crates,vehicles,explosivecans…)createmultipleconfortableinfiltrationpossibilities.Playershave tounderstand thateverything is coming fromSHDandCERA’sequipment.However,paintedonsomeofthem,theplayerscanseethefaction’sname:TheVision.Manyhostilesarelocatedinthisareaandthesquadhastostayunseen.AlimitedpartofLibertyIslandisavailable.

Therearethreeinfiltrationstages:

1- Thesquadhastokillthehostilessilentlywithcoordinatedattacksusingsilencersorbladedweapons,ortheonesinthecampwilljoinforahopelessfight.

2- In the camp, hostiles are inside tents (sleeping, talking…) or outside (walking,working…).Playershavetoavoidthemorkillthemdiscreetlyiftheydonotwanttobeoverwhelmedinahopelessfight.

3- In Fort Wood’s external stairs (2F) to the rooftop (3F). During this stage, theplayer has to see the Statue of Liberty behind the enemies.Whenhe does, anexplosionhappensbetweenthecolonnades(3P).Theenemiesinthestairsruntothe pedestal, and the players can easily access the rooftop. However, hostiles

comefrombehind(fromthecamporapreviouslylockeddoortoFortWood)andinfiltrationnecessarilyfails.

Afightstartsbutsomehostilesjustruntroughtheareatothepedestal.TheideaistoshowthatthisunexpectedeventcanbemoreimportantthanfourDivision’sagent.

LEVEL1Pto3P–INSIDETHEPEDESTALEach floors is organised with different kind of rooms, like the SHD’s base of operations.Startingfromlevel2P,nexttoaworkshop/tortureroom,theplaceisdamage:deadbodies,bulletimpacts,fire...WehavetounderstandthatEthanmanagestoescapefromthetortureroom and during a confrontation, fired in a big napalm tank. A body is lying next to thetortureroom,anaxeinthehead.Noises,comingfromabove,indicatethatEthanisstillaliveandstruggling.Someenemiescomefrombehindthesquad,givingafeelofinsecurity.

The access to the Statue is closed from the inside and a small bomb has beenactivatedtoopenit.Theexplosionhappensatthebeginningofthebattle–causingdamagesifaplayeristooclose–andalltheenemiesrunintothestairs.Aspreviously,newonescancomefrombehind.

Because of height and narrowness,hostilesarehardtokill.Theplayershavetofindthegoodspottoaimandterminatethem.Someofthehostileshaveflamethrowers.Ifthetanksexplode,someelementscanfalltothelowerlevelsanddamagethesquad.Thesamehappenforgrenades.
